Afternoon
I'm thinking of changing my S2000 for a 3.0 Z4 so was wondering if anybody could answer a couple of questions?
The ones I'm looking at are SE's with 18" wheels, is the ride as bad as some say, would I be better of with 17" wheels?
Day to day running when I use the S2000 I get around 22 - 24 mpg, how does the Z4 compare?
Also the performance, I'm assuming similar to the S2000 but a bit more useable?
I will be going for a test drive, but was wondering about the above before I actively look!

The ride is fine IMO - apparently even better if you ditch the RFTs.
I average about 30mpg. If doing a motorway cruise - it can get up to around 38mpg.
Never tried the S2k - but there is a decent amount of low down torque, and seems happy to drive along at 1.5-2k RPM around town.

I swapped the RFTs to Michelin PS2s, as I'd used them before on my M3s and highly rate them. The Z4 has 17" alloys, so the ride isn't as harsh anyway, but it made a big difference.
MPG wise, it's a 3.0 auto, and overall does approx 27mpg (lots of thrashing round town in that though).
Good cars, and the Carver hi-fi pack is highly recommended!

That's what the computer calculates it as, anyway - luckily I rarely fill it up so I don't worry too much about it!

I get @ 25 - 30 out of my 3.0 auto'.
I had quite a bad back injury a few years back and I find the ride ok. I've not changed to non - rft's yet but did so on a 120d with 17"s. I used Continental Sportcontact 2's which seem good. Goodyear Fi Asymmetrics are apparently good too.
Ony think I regret is not getting sports seats. A bit narrow perhaps, but very supportive.

Agreed, M sport seats and non run flat tyres were the best modifications I did to the car... well except the supercharger I had quite a bad back injury a few years back and I find the ride ok. I used to average 28mpg in the 3.0, upto 33/34 on a run.. very good for the performance.

I thrash my 3.0 z4 for all its worth combined with London to cotswolds M40 I get 30mpg this includes the odd hill climb and bouncing of the rev limiter in 6th when conditions are in my favour! This is for the last 14000 miles, just had its oil service 25000 miles and brake fluid changed with change out of £300 and thats it for another 15500 miles! Its good idea to keep an eye on your levels though!
Would recomend Z4 3.0 to anyone, I had elise s2 before but the motor way with full sports exhaust upset the Bird! Z4 not as much fun but better alround day to day car.. tad softer turn-in than S2000's I have driven, but much better torque and I think better set-up genraly and slightly less hair spray! :-)

Hmmmmmmm...... never heard of a standard Z4 hitting the limiter in 6th... certainly not on an open road, maybe just maybe on a 3 mile airstrip with a hard top on. The are only 230bhp. Edit to say, I assume you're talking about the 155mph limiter, not the rev limiter in 6th...

yes sorry should explian a little 155mph very long straight I use every week! not saying its a public rd. otherwise I may get reported or nicked.. anyway its a small incline for about 1.5 miles then drops down hill very nicely for another 1/2 mile best at night hood up! I cannot get it to pull past 155 limiter or not thats what it wants to do.. have tried several times! Hood down best achived is about 145 but then I ran out of patiece and bottle as it was taking ages!
I've got a 07 Coupe and have done 6Kmiles in mine now. I have to say its up there with my all time fav cars. The best thing about it is that it does everything so well.
I can fill the boot and head off on long trips,run round town or take to the track and it laps it all up.
I'm just back from a 340 mile trip last week. I could have taken an A6 Avant 2.0tdi but I passed and took the Z4C. Its great on long runs and even managed to make 37MPG on the road up and we were rushing along. Really it doesnt get much better
