Continental ContiSportContact SSR's here on an E91 325i.

Ride is firm, but not jiggly or crashy. Nothing to bother me at all, or prevent me buying another 3.

Would love to put a set of non-RFT's to see what difference it would make, but at £100+ per corner it's an expensive experiment.
It's £750 for me to 'experiment' by replacing the RFT with normal ones! I'm not keen to try that just yet. I would love to swap rims with someone for a couple of hours to try it out though.

On my 2nd set of non runflats now and there great. You do lose the crashing and smashing ride you get with the runflats.

Decided to ring the insurance company and they said it will not cost me any extra either.

The latest generation RunOnFlats are much more supple. The first ones were somewhat overengineered.

Last year I swapped from 17" RunFlat to 18" non run flat on my E60. The ride quality was comparable, but at speed I actually found the RunFlat ride to be better damped than the non runflat 18s. The only time I noticed the RunFlat ride on my Goodyear NCT5 was at very low speed, particularly when cold.

Hi all

I've just been to the local tyre specialist to get my wheels balanced due to a slight juddering at motorway speeds and I've been advised the tracking is way out - excessive wear on the inside of all 4 tyres. Its been suggested here and on E90post.com that the very firm sidewalls of run flat tyres can upset the tracking (at best)and crack wheels and subframes (at worst). I don't think runfats are fit for purpose on UK roads - does anyone know if I have any redress with BMW? I think I deserve a contribution towards 4 new tyres and that the rims and subframe might even be damaged (cracked).

Has anyone raised this with BMW before? I know pjs (on E90 Post) is in discussion about cracked wheels but I am initially seeking a contribution to replacing the tyres. Thought I'd seek opinion/experience before contacting the dealer..

Cheers

The only real disappointment of all the E90s/E92s I've driven is totally removed by junking the RFTs.

The difference in ride and in some circumstances grip, is very noticeable.

RFT: Wet weather grip is awful, dry weather grip is okay, wear is acceptable, ride is abysmal.

Ditch them, tell your insurance company, and never look back...

Well I got 4 new goodyear F1 asymetrics fitted this morning and I can feel an improvement in the ride quality although the feedback has been numbed slightly. Turn in is not quite as sharp but its in keeping with the rest of the car (335d M Sport Coupe) which isn't attempting to be especially razor sharp. Needed camber and toe adjustments on 3 of the 4 wheels thanks to those runflats/potholes/speedbumps..

I have the 320d touring on Conti SSR run-flats, they are better than the original Bridgestone, which made driving a completely ‘miserable’ experience.

Recently noticed this skipping across the road thing on bends in the wet ??

What really bought home just how poor run flats are was when I recently hired a Saab Sports Wagen 1.9d.

Sports suspension, low profile rims and tyres. I though I was in limo, it was so smooth and quiet. Got back into the 320d and though I’d gone back in time to yester year ride quality.

I did have the drive of my life in the 320 the week before in Cornwall in the rain, near perfect handling on B roads at speed in corners, over crests etc, my 9 year old did throw-up when we stopped though !!!

I've just changed from run-flat tyres to non run flats on my BMW 318d. It is fantastic - much smoother and better grip. I told my insurance but they didn't need any extra payment (and didn't need to be notified). I bought a space saver tyre and jack from BMW garage. BMW garage were absolutely fine about it (almost as if they knew a lot of people are doing it now). Whole set of tyres and space saver were cheaper than 4 new run-flat tyres! My journeys are so much better now! I totally recommend it.

x4. Cheapish and particularly good in the cold / wet.
