If you only want/need one car then the 130i is a great all-rounder. All right, they aren't massive in the back, but, let's be honest, how many people REALLY need to carry around 4/5 6-footers and/or loads of furniture?
What else offers such a blend of performance and economy for the money?
As far as current pricing is concerned, last month I paid £18.8k for an 8-month old car with 1700 miles from a main dealer. It has a few decent options (prof radio, bluetooth, folding mirrors, sun protection glass, lumbar support, er...) and a new one to my spec would cost £29,160.
Yet, despite all this, my favourite aspect of the car is the little lights under the door handles that look lovely at night against the Le Mans blue paint...
Ha..must admit those little blue lights look so cool....
The size thing, is and isnt an issue for us. I already have a 320d M Sport Tourer as a company car, and love it, hence the desire to get a 1er for the wife and young kids. So room on family trips is not a problem.
The size in the back of the 1er is a slight issue for 2yr old boy, and new born baby,
where those big cumbersome car seats are needed... its not something I can walk into a BMW garage and try out, and dont want to buy only to struggle for room, when we have plenty in back of ST....
any advice?

Of course you can, why not? Most BMW dealers have a brand new 1'er in their showroom and a few second hand cars outside, i'm sure if you told them you were considering buying a 1'er but needed to check if you could get child seats in the back they'd have no problems showing you to a suitable car.where those big cumbersome car seats are needed... its not something I can walk into a BMW garage and try out, and dont want to buy only to struggle for room, when we have plenty in back of ST....

I got the distinct impression from the salesman & sales manager that they thought they'd knocked too much off the car. I had no p/x for them to bumrape me on the value of, no finance and I declined their kind offers of GAP insurance and that supaguard or whatever its called.
Looking at current prices I think I got a really good deal. The car is in showroom condition in and out too - not a mark on it and I'm a fussy bugger.

I'm actually quite pleased with the compact dimensions of the '1'. It's easier to press on than previous cars I've owned when on narrow winding roads. It also fits into my little garage whereas my Focus catagorically wouldn't - the '1' is about 10cm narrower than the Focus (and the folding mirrors help).
I do wonder about this perception that cars must have more and more interior space - my dad never had anything bigger inside than a Rover SD1/Cortina with two strapping sons and a big dopey Irish setter! No need for MPVs/4x4s in them days...
I honestly don't think it's half as bad as the journos make out. My kids are 11 & 6 and we have frequent weekends away with no real shortage of space. Suppose it depends on what you're used to, but I find it far more practical than the 3 series saloon, given the size of the boot opening.
The only criticism from "big" people is actually getting in the back due to the sculpted nature of the rear side bolsters, but once they're in they're fine.

F**ck!!!!!!! Looks like i got bent over and raped. Bought an 8 month old 130i with 2500 miles and without some of those options for 22k. And there I as thinking i got a good deal. This was 3 months ago though, maybe they weren't quite so desperate then. Still, don't regret it one bit - cracking car!omohat said:

Perhaps yours has leather? - mine doesn't.
It was the cheapest in the UK when i bought it, taking age and mileage into account. As I said above, I got the impression they thought they'd knocked too much off...

Cheapest ive seen in a BMW AUC 130i Sport for £11,999 with a few toys no leather & that was only 12,000miles! Seems you both got your pants pulled down.
I dare say though that this car would be significantly older than my 8-month old one, so would be the earlier less economical/higher tax band version. I dare say it was the SE and not the M-Sport too.(Pulls pants back up}

Well it must have sold bloody quick because the cheapest Msport on there now is £14490. Maybe you're confusing their description of 1 series "Sport Hatch" with M-sport..Flat6 said:

I don't regret it for a second though because without fail it always puts a smile on my face no matter how short the journey.
Amen to that! (Mine doesn't have either the leather or xenons, so like you say not a bad deal after all.)
