Well....my 535d is a Sept 07 Lci 286bhp model and the rev counter was telling me approx 1650 rpm at 70mph.
With a good mix of driving speeds and roads, the onboard puter suggests that i normally acheive an average 36.5mpg
Cruising at 70mph, it would appear to hover around 45-50mpg
HTH!
It seems like its geared to 42.42mph/1000rpm in 6th gearWith a good mix of driving speeds and roads, the onboard puter suggests that i normally acheive an average 36.5mpg

HTH!
2k= 85mph
3k= 127mph
4k= 170mph
5k= 212mph
So at the speed limiter 155mph your doing 3,650rpm thats remarkable.
MPG readout - many thanks chaps thats exactly what I wanted to hear, been hearing so much negatives about the MPG with some people just getting low to mid 20's out of the 272bhp & then the 286bhp is about 30mpg this clearly shows that you can get very good mpg. (I guess the OP who have the low MPG's are either in heavy traffic or they use a lot of the performance).
If I were to buy one of the 272bhp Sports from BMW AUC and say it was up for £20k how much less should I big in the current climate? Would it be sensible to go in maybe £3k or even £4k under asking price then walk out and see if they call me back with a counter offer?

Very unlikely they will accept, as BMW margins just aren't that high (unlike Porsche).You may hit lucky, and it's worth giving it a go, but even in this market a grand knocked off the price is a decent result (and I'm somebody who loves to haggle and usually gets good prices).

I'd have expected more than that!
£1k off a £20k car is a mere 5% saving - I would have expected that in normal market conditions.
I think though if you do go in too low you will just look/sound like a messer/tyre kicker and not a true buyer so finding the correct % off screen price is the key I feel 5% is way too little but then again it depends on what the asking price is and its options/milage
You appear to like your percentages
Most dealers have already reduced the prices (and size) of their stock, to the point now that many dealers are actually cheaper than private offerings.
If you know somebody who works at a dealership they can actually tell you what the car was bought in for etc. The car will owe them that price, plus the cost of a warranty and any minor repairs and service work which will have had to be carried out.
What sort of discount are you expecting?

I had a go at this and on a 2005 535d (272) at 70mph had 1650 with what seems like a very poor 30.9 mpg. Don't think I had the handbrake on either!
That is poor - was that average MPG or instant mpg>? If its instant and not a steep gradient then maybe your using a lesser grade diesel or your injectors are a little clogged or some other reason (low pressure in tyres)?IMHO there shoud be no difference in cars 535d 272bhp in the UK @ this suggested test speed if there is then there must be something wrong.

Instant reading. I did hear about some cars being set up for American gallon readings which can be changed on the computer, but I could never work out where to go to check.
Best check the tyres.
I'd try this a couple more times.Best check the tyres.
Also try it at 60mph & 50mph and quote your readouts here - Im sure some fellow PHers will/could do the same and that will indicate if there is a disparity.
Its probably tyre inflation - also tyre make/tread pattern makes a difference too. Plus was your car fully laiden/full tank of fuel/touring vs saloon?
Still IMHO the gap is too much - OR your car is a little/lot more tired than the other persons

Spend the wedding pot, why do you want to pay sheds loads of money for everyone else to have a nice time eating your food and drinking your wine!!? And it's all over in a day. Go on go on go on, you know you want to
lol No all that has been partially paid for in deposits - so doing that suggestion would = loss of deposit and then the need to find another caterer etc for original cost less lost deposit less a bit more...frankly not easy at all.Rest is Honeymoom £.

Holy crap. I bought my 55 reg 535d M Sport Touring from a dealer for £32,000 with 29k on the clock last July. Is it really only worth £20k now?
Oh well, just as well I mentally write the value off when I've bought a car. That's really good value if you can get one now for low £20k's.
Well its losing £ every day like every car - the thing is people are downsizing /not changing so suddenly less demand and less customers to buy your car hence its worth less.Oh well, just as well I mentally write the value off when I've bought a car. I mean frankly there is nothing wrong with a Leon Curpa TDI 150bhp one could eek out a few more years without really suffering that much from not having the daddy 535d & then buy it for half of what it is today.
