I'd imagine anyone who specs the SE with Dynamic Drive would go for the optional 18 inch alloys as I agree that the standard 17" are a bit lacking. Don't know about price differential between M Sport and SE on second hand basis but I think price gap is similar.

If the gap is similar then that means the market is valuing the SE lower relative to the M Sport.

If you're going as far as buying a 535d, i'd make sure it was an m sport.

Am looking forward to the test drives tomorrow.

535d M sports

And also going to try the 231bhp 330d M Sport too - as initially that was my first choice.

funny - some people love the 3 and dont like the 5, others, vice versa. I guess a couple of test drives will tell you which camp you're in.

Personally, I'd go for the 535d, my dealer principal had one as his co car for a while a couple of years back and it was a terrific car.

Comfort seats are great if you can find a car with them - they have a much greater range of adjustability than the sports items. That said, BMW sports seats are pretty much as good as it gets so you'll not be suffering too much by not having comfort seats.

HUD is great too, particularly for the nav instructions - saves taking your eyes off the road.

They are better value than the 330d due to the fact they are the same age - most with more kit & clearly cost a good £10k more new but 2nd hand they are the same price.

I put an offer in £3k under the asking price so £15.5k offer for a £18.5k screen price.

Then said nothing there was silence for half a minute - they didnt want that offer so i walked, saying that if you think about it and change your minds give me a call and left it like that.

Lets see how desperate they really are.

Im hoping so and I'll hold back for say 2 weeks (unless they call me) just to ask if they have reconsidered.

It would be one hell of a deal 535d Media leather xenons grey 60k ish miles.

Review of the drive - the 330d Sport 230bhp really is a fantastic car 369lbf really is more than enough and it has great sport seats. Downside is in saloon the rear boot is well not that big/difficult opening.
It didnt have Nav so only leather, auto, xenons.

Review of the 535d - seats very different to the 330d more of sofas which grip you well. Electric seats too, Nav is very good and the whole cabin is really more than ample.
Performance well its 123d esque as in no lag you floor it from idle and it surges fwd - the 330d needed 1200rpm to get going the 535d was going from 900rpm! Overtaking in the 535d doesnt need very much space its basically a point and go car.

Noise - well nothing special frankly when taking them to max revs I would much rather the noise of a screaming petrol but thats a compromise i can live with & accept.

Overall - I'd say the 330d is more than enough pace & size for anyone even with a family, the 535d is just spoiling yourselft.

MPG - the 330d 230bhp was a little more economical, I managed an average of 46mpg in the 330d which involved some hard driving also some very light cruising where you could see it well into the mid /high 50's mpg.
535d - average 42mpg (272bhp) curising you could see just into 50's but you'd struggle to maintain it

i'd say in may use I'd get mid 40's all day with the 535d and for the 330d I'd push 50.

Remember Im getting 35 to 38mpg from my fiat coupe and thats its extra urban official (36mpg official extra urban) so the type of driving I do will yeild that.

There is a nice 54 plate 535d sport with 45k miles on it for £15k on autotrader.
Add nav professional for £800 and you have a really nice low mileage car.

Thats either 120 or 144bhp - not enough power.
