Hey all.

Anyone over these parts got one of these?

I see AUC cars for £22k with 15k miles. 5 litre V8 with all the toys!! Seems like a big lump of car for that.

Anyone got one? Love it? Hate it?

Thanks all thumbup

Can you get me one? Sytners have a 13k miles one in black with black leather for £22k.

I simply can't see a downside at that price.

I watched some youtube videos last night of 550i's and they go like HELL and sound amazing. Added to which they're only group 17 insurance, and as they're not an M car the warranty is cheap as chips.

Am I missing something?

I don't have one, and I've never driven one, but Total BMW magazine reckon that if you're an E39 M5 owner(which I am), and you want a new car with similar driving charcteristics, then a manual 550i M Sport is the way to go, rather than the E60 M5.

They rate the E39 M5 as one of the best BMWs ever built, so I expect the 550i is pretty good.

Thing is, I love the E60 M5.

BUT

For £22k I get 95% of the experience, plus an auto box, and cheap insurance and the cheaper non-M warranty.

What's not to like?!

Why would you pay that much? Have you seen what they're going for at BMW dealers?

That's the very one.

So, 5 litre V8, all the toys, and £22k with only 13k miles on it. Cheap insurance and cheap servicing and warranty.

There must be a catch?

I don't think so, just they were very unpopular on launch as everyone went for the 535d which offers similar performance with slightly cheaper running costs. I have driven a 550 and they sound wonderful, with plenty of grunt.

Well I've been toying with an E60 M5 for £30k.

But COME ON.

One of these is almost £10k cheaper, has cheaper warranty, cheaper servicing and almost as much go. 13k miles?!

Bet it'd sound nice with a Tubi on it.

Well, you see that's the thing.

Because it's not an M car, the warranty is only £600 or something, and the servicing is cheap. And the insurance is cheap!

Its the 4.8 V8, isn't it?

I've been in a 545i which was superb, one hell of a Q car. The 545 quickly became the 550. Debadged, very stealthy.

Pointy chinned driving chap Tiff Needell has/had one.

Great value for money and good fuel economy - waaay better than the M-cinq.

The catches are

(a) its a fairly naff spec (it only has business nav which is naff rather than nav pro) and very few other extras.
(b) Its heading towards four years old
(c) It still has a long way to drop
(d) A 535d can be bought for less and will cost less to run
(e) A 530d can be bought for less and will be easier sold
(f) A 530i can be bought for less and is still a very nice petrol car without the starship running costs and 'snow off a ditch' depreciation curve
