The way this thread is concluding says it all really about the original post....

All the discussion now is around the B5,M5 and 535d...doesn't say much about the 550i does it?

I've no doubt it drives very well. I'm sure its beautiful to drive actually, but if i was going to those lengths, i'd get an m5.

I guess it sums up the 550is problem - it doesnt invoke the passion of the other three and i guess thats part of the reason why it doesnt sell so well.

I wouldn't. That V8 has a lovely sound and is great to waft around in. Loads of torque too.

Top value at the moment, which is the point of this thread eh?

But the M5 isnt much more - Id say the price gap needs to be much more so silly offers only.

Remember you can buy a 745i for £6.5k.... thats stunning value.

Now we're going round in circles....

I guess for all those who actually say 'oh i would buy the 550i' in terms of sales and purchases, statistically, very few actually do 'buy' them, though lots say they would if given the choice.

Maybe given the cold hard choice of parting with your own money on one, not too many can justify parting the cash?

yikes Where? Would be just the kick in the rear I need to sell the boxster privately and invest in a 5.

This is the one thing that puts me off a 550i - savage depreciation as they're not 'special' enough.
