What wheels will fit my E39?
Discussion
OK, I don't want "bling dub-tooz, innit" or anything, my car (530i sport) has some very nice standard M-Sport wheels that it left the factory with, and I'm very happy with them. But I'd like to get a spare set of wheels to have some winter tyres/snowchains on for when I'm up in the alps. They don't have to be nice, just functional. I was wondering if any other cars had the same PCD, etc. as my car. Maybe Volvo Wheels are cheaper than BMW wheels, etc.
Thanks, Dan
Thanks, Dan
What model is it? An E39 or an E60?
Depending on what size you're after, you should be able to pick up some E39 wheels of some variation for pretty cheap... My old E34 came with some E39 turbine wheels on it when I bought it (16" tyres are half the price of metrics that the car would have had originally), though I quickly swapped these for some E34 540i Sport wheels (again 16")... The E39 wheels I then sold on Ebay... I only got about £40 for 4 without tyres, and there was practially not a mark on them!
If you want 17's or 18's off an E39 though, you'll pay a lot more money, though of course if it's for winter tyres, you'd be better off with smaller rims and higher profile tyres anyway...

Dan, I'm not sure what part of the UK you come back to when you're over but I've got loads of BMW wheels in my shed. Got a set of 4 E46 15":

Also got a set of 5 original 15" E36 325i wheels:
And a set of these 16" but they could do with a good polish TBH:

The E39 is unfortunately pretty unique in terms of wheel fit.
I've been meaning to ask, the 99 528 SE I'm looking at has the standard wheels but I'm looking to upgrade to the sport ones you have, what sort of price am I looking at to do this, wheres best to get them and how big are they?I used to have 18's on my 1998 528i (Which was lowered). Tyres were 265 on the back and 235 on the front. I have seen 19's done but 18's was the limit of reasonable tyre expense for me!
Also, had to be careful of tyre brands on the back as ones which extended passed the rim (eg Bridgestone at the time) could rub on inner arch.
Here she is before I sold her 2 years ago...
