I'm trying to dig around for some prices on a clutch replacement for the E34 sometimes next year, whats a rough estimate or average paid by those with the same?

TIA

I'm not sure how much a clutch replacement would be at a garage, but if you get a clutch kit from German & Swedish or from a Main Dealer, I'd happily give you hand changing it. They aren't to difficult to do.

I've got a lot of work to do on the E34...well, not that much to be fair, but it's all PITA work like clutch, front shocks, oxygen sensor...usual st really!

How far is Lancaster from Leeds hehe

I lived in Huddersfield for 7 years during and after uni, I sort of went there and never went home! I have a lot of friends in the Hudds/Leeds area (and go out on the lash there when I can...) it's only about an hour and a half from Lancaster.

I know what these jobs are like as they can be a real pain. The E34 is a nice car to work on and I've got all my tools, so if you fancy it let me know. I'm currently working in South Wales, but this job will be finished in the New Year so I will be back up North then.

I might just be in touch fella, as I could do with getting to grips with the old bh and learning what's what....it's been such a long time since I did any work on a car and then it wasn't really worth shouting about

Ahh I know huddersfield fairly well, used to work there and still have friends that live there too smile

Let me know and I'll be happy to pop across, I enjoy working on cars. I've done most things; clutches, suspension, steering, cylinder heads etc. Next time I'm home I have to sort out my old Rover as the head gasket went pop when I took it for a run out.

It's also a good excuse to have a few beers afterwards! Nowt more satisfying than going for a well earned drink after playing with ones car!

smile

Not an E34 but I have an E36 with the same engine and in the SH there's a receipt for about £300 to supply and fit a clutch earlier this year at a BMW specialist in Rugby. Will have a look when I get home if you like.

I won't be home until Friday afternoon but will dig it out. One thing I remember though is it had a new slave cylinder only a couple of months after the clutch so it may be worth doing the both together.

Isn't that for the brakes though? I'm on about the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder.

Im sure we could sort something out using my workshop, Scott.
Changing the clutch is a whole lot easier using a ramp! All the tools you'll need will be at hand and I will be around to lend a hand and keep things along the right lines .......

What do you know about sump gaskets on E32s hehe

Sump gaskets......
Very common for the bolts to loosen and then they leak like a government official.
Often, nipping them up again can cure any weeping. Changing the gasket isn't such a bad job if required and gives the opportunity to check the oil pump bolts while the sump is off. Theyre rather prone to coming loose too!

You have such a poetic way of describing these jobs which makes them appear to be a complete PLEASURE to do hehe

I've been quoted an obscene amount of money to replace the sump gasket, which has pushed out on one side and is steadily bleeding on my floor frown

When I say obscene, I do mean in relation to what I paid for the car...we're talking quotes between £350-500 if the mechanic wants to do it AT ALL eek
