Sales staff can't draw up finance quotes.
Discussion
Borrowing money for a car and putting it on your mortgage has to be the daftest thing to do ever! People end up financing cars over 20 years and are paying for it long after the car has been sold on. BMW Select is a PCP agreement, surely the safest way to finance a car in today's strange times. You get a guaranteed future value which is underwritten by BMW finance, and so if the car is worth less than that amount at the end of the term, BMW finance cop for the loss, if the car is worth more than that, you get to pocket the difference. You can't lose. I'll wager that there are many on this forum with cars on PCP agreements who will be so chuffed that they financed their car that way, and many who borrowed on a personal loan ( maybe at a lower APR) who will be carrying the full depreciation hit under today's terrible car residual values.A PCP offers a good safety net, nothing else does.A 12% APR for a PCP is actually not bad.

Not wanting to hi-jack this, but I'm worried that you only got offered £200 off the screen price!!
I'm close to buying a 335i convertible from my local BM dealer, depending on the discount I can get. Up for £35k, and I'm thinking of offering £33k. Sounds like I may be dreaming!!
it depends on the price of the car, better to get £200 off a car @£33K than £2000 off the same car in another dealers @£35K.I'm close to buying a 335i convertible from my local BM dealer, depending on the discount I can get. I've really struggled to get the level of discount I was expecting. They seem happpier to let me walk away than to give me any money off... all they are trying to do is give me "cashback" but then add it to the PCP!!!
To be compeltely honest, I have £700 remining on my current PCP. I basically said I will change if THEY pay that.
They said no, why should they, but they could add it to the monthly payments. I then found out the tax disc I had already negotiated FOC was actually also being added to the monthly payments. So i'd be paying the first year's tax off over 4 years???
Fark that.

One other thing, I offered 23k on a 25k car, and they said "you need to be looking at cheaper cars if your budget is 23k. I don't think you can afford this one."
I hate that tactic - it's meant to make your ego kick in and you say "of course I can afford it!" and fold... But actually it makes me think "you cheeky - stick your car up your arse"

May use that on the next tt that think they are entitled to something for nothing.

One of the oldest tricks in the book.....I hate that tactic - it's meant to make your ego kick in and you say "of course I can afford it!" and fold...
edit: this was a response to okgo... forgot to quote.
cool!
Meanwhile that tt will be looking at the 50 other cars of a similar spec and price that are available at one of the 5 or 6 other dealerships within the region.
Hard times, I know... but when you are selling the same product as your competitors, in a buyer's market, and the customer can compare all products on one central website without having to walk into the salesman's "lair"... then you need to either be:
1) A brilliant telephone salesperson, or
2) Very competitively priced.
If you're an okay salesperson, with an okay price, then you make it easy for the customer to just keep on looking.

I didnt bite (thankfully) and the car i was interested in is still there (4 months later) and is now at the price i wanted to deal at.... that'll teach them!
Plus dont tell me there isnt a margin in there nor come to me with a lie that there's a customer tommorrow wanting to take it off our hands... Also dont try to make me feel like I owe you anything as your a dealer and you have to make margin on the cars you sell... why not try harder to ensure i come back for the next 3 years and get my car serviced with you....
Rant over...
Edit to say sorry OkGo didnt read on i just find it fustrating that they try it on and think people wont walk.

I have said this time and time again, arrogant attitude gets you nowhere as a buyer, its not a competition, it is a transaction between to adults that if done right, ends up with both parties happy, job done!
Try and be cleaver and the salesman will just switch off and in the end hope he doesn't sell you a car, as you are likely to be a pain in the arse!
Be freindly and get a raport going and I promise the deal will be a whole lot better.
