right, i am a student and own a 1982 3 series bmw, my mum has offered me her 1996 golf gl tdi (yes...the tractor!) for £600. the car has a full service history (she has serviced it every 10-11months) and she has been the owner since 1999 and it's covered 132,000 miles. now...i have several options...buy it and try and sell it for what it's really worth - about £11-1200. the body work is in good shape, and has been an extremely reliable car (never broken down in 132k miles!!)

i love my bmw too much to sell it, but don't really have anywhere to store it properly, the only place would be outside under a car cover on a steep drive...not ideal!

what you reckon i should do? i would surely be mad to say no to this for 600!!? shes going to renew MOT as well, so it will have 12months mot!!!

please, advice guys! i'm a student and can just afford to run the bmw, but not 1 cars thats for sure.

cheers for any advice!

Let it go, now's not the time to be selling cars if you dont have the funds to hang onto it for a while if no-one bites

Or offer to sell it for her and split anything above the 600?

Keep the beemer. If your mum doesnt mind you having the car for £600 and trying to sell it for more then do that. I'm not sure if its worth what you value it at though. I would say the £600 is'nt far off the mark. Maybe you could get a couple hundred more.

When the time comes for you to own a more run of the mill car, then thats when you should get one. Until then, stick with what you love!

Another here.

And mint as it may be I'm looking at 16v Gti's for less than a few £100 more so you might be lucky to get much more than £600 and could find yourself 6 months on taking £500 for it.

I had a 1996 tractor (sorry, golf mk3 TD).
I looked into selling it, but then gave it to a mate because I owed him about £130 in bills.

Had proper exercise windows and everything.

i have found someone very very keen on buying it for £900 smile looking online they seem to be fetching about 1100 or 1200 or so. my mum said i can keep all the profits, she just wants the 600 asap for deposit for her new car. so i have paid her that, and next weekend my friend is looking at it, they spend 80quid a week on petrol, so a diesel would be good!

so i look to make 300quid for doing sod all smile

should pay for the service due on the bimmer in a few weeks huh

my sensible hat would have been to sell the bmw. but being a huge petrol head, i can't sell it, i love it too much.
