I have an 03 330ci, I wondered if there's an easy and reversible way of disabling the headlamp washers.

Frankly they're just annoying - waste washer fluid whilst making a mess of the car.

Any ideas? A fuse perhaps? Cheers

Its only just dawned on me !

So that's what causes the streaks all over my bonnet, I thought it was just road grime from other cars !

I'd be very interested to find out the answer too wink

Glad it's not just me.

Maybe there's a dedicated motor on the washer bottle that can be unplugged?

2 Separate pumps, just take the plug off the h/light one.

yep, they use the hydraulic pressure of the fluid to push the squirter forward.

if you haven't seen in in action, (as most people are in the driver's seat anyway) get outside and get someone to press the washer stalk a few times and you'll see them pop out.

Technically you need them if you have xenon lights fitted, it is part of the construction regs, but after getting type approval in the factory, it is never checked again

Or pull the fuse.

I was told if you pull the fuse it throws up a fault code.

The easiest way is just not to make them spray wink

They only spray when your lights are on, so if they are on, just do quick flicks of the stalk. I do this and it stops the headlight washers coming on, but does mean I have to manaully engage the wipers.

One of mine has started to not retract again properly. It will spray then sit about 1/2 the way out. It was freakin cold though. Anyone else have that?

A little unsafe when it's dark.

The easiest way is unplug the headlamp washer pump, took me all of 20 seconds last night, no warning lights, any fault codes can screw themselves :-)

No, don't turn the lights off... in BMW's if you don't hold the stalk when spraying it just shoots water in a small burst without wiping. Guessing this means it doesn't have time to engage the headlight washers.

No, pulling the fuse worked fine on my E46 328i; thankfully the car's not *that* complex yet that it knows when the headlamp washers aren't working! I believe the fuse is only for the headlamp washers and nothing else.

In the early days or running the car the dealer twice replaced the fuse at servicing so they obviously checked the operation of the washers.

its a thought idiot! I thought insurance was based specifically upon the exact vehicle, so this would act as a safety feature and maybe reduce the premium

More like increase the premium becuase it 'makes it more attractive to theives' or some other rubbish.

Does it come fitted with HID bulbs as standard? As if it does it would be illegal to use it on the road without the washers. If not they it likely not going to be hard to disable them.
