can a car take this long to run in?

got a 2002 325 sport 4 door in march with only 17500 miles, only done 4000 in last 4 years, had a lot of problems with it at first & to be fair dealer fixed everyone at no cost. 10 months later & now at 25000 miles the car seems to be getting smother each time i drive it now.
Do cars tighteen up when limited use & need run in again?
