I'm in the market for one of these next month - but it seems that the market has all but vanished. Just the same 5 odd cars and no new additions. Is this a usual christmas effect? They don't seem to be selling either...

See the other thread on cars listed on the website. I have been keeping an eye on these also. Loads before Xmas and very few now.

I think they have been pulled from the site.

People dont buy them new anymore. All the muppets are knee-jerk buying 530d's instead even though they only get 6mpg more on the combined cycle, cost more on company car tax and are slower.

True, there are LOADS of 530d's! I don't want a bus!

Does anyone have a link for the full tech spec, interior spec of these? I am probably getting an E60 later on this year and after reading a few posts on here I think the petrol would suit me better. Cheers.

I can't help with an official one, I've been using parkers:

Important thing to note is the update in the second half of 2005 which added a fair bit more power.

Thanks for that. I picked up on the engine change. Will need to do a bit of digging to see what engine numbers etc.

I think it was sept 05 - so I was assuming that anything with a 55 plate was prob the updated model, although there is probably some lag between the manufactured date and the registration to take into account.

The engines look different I think - I found a site with pictures that I might be able to dig out when I get home.

As opposed to, are quieter when cruising, have a power band more suited to a lot of peoples driving style, be more more easily sold come resale time and is likely to hold on to its value better?

Quieter when cruising? I don't think so.

The value thing is true but thats more an effect rather than a cause.

I'm not convinced about the value thing. The 530d msports seem to be cheaper than the 530i's.

Really? Well i cant see a 530d being any noisier than a 535d and i cant see a 530i being any quieter than the 540i....

As they get older the 530d will hold its value better than the 530i. A 2002 e39 530d M Sport is several thousand more than an equivalent 530i.

Each to their own. My wife has a z4 coupe 3.0si and its a cracking engine.

I just dont like it when people who kick the diesel variant unnecessarily.

The only additional noise driving my 530i compared to when I drive the 530d is tyre noise from the 18 inch wheels. Neither has any noticeable engine noise when cruising, really.

I think it's starting to flip, large engined petrol cars are becoming rare, and therefore holding their values well.

Also people are realising that diesels are not that good on short journeys, with petrol at 15% cheaper the diesels are starting to be no cheaper to fuel, and there is far less to go wrong with a petrol under the hood.

To be fair to fair to pgilc1 here, at 1-2 years old the diesels don't cost more, but as you get to 3-5 years there is a premium for the diesel, then as you get to 6 years + in age the petrols start to come back in price, sometimes demanding more than the diesel.
