E34 Questions

Hi guys picked up a E34 520i Auto today as a run around for a few months. Couple of probs;

1. Windscreen washer jets not working despite water in the tank.

2. Heater only blows cold. Temp gauge sits around the middle usually, then on a run drops to quarter.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Other than that she seems to be all good - will post some pics on the weekend.

This morning the windscreen washer on my E39 wouldn't work, turned out the hose had come out, that's all.

RE point 2, sounds like you need a new thermostat.

Is it the 24 valve? plastic covered engine? If it is, i'd recommend going over the cooling system.

If it gets cold after being warmed up, the 'stat is definitely up the spout, but the water pump is unreliable too, and only 30-40 quid part.
As you'll be draining the system and refilling with antifreeze again, it's best to do both whilst you have it drained.
