E39 Airbag Light

Hi guys,

Replaced my older M Sport steering wheel with the newer one today. Very nice. Happy with the wheel, feels so much better. However... the airbag light is not on all the time which I gather is not a 'good thing'. None of the retrofit guides on the web reffered to this so I gather it's not actually supposed to happen.

What have I broken?

Have you reset things by disconnecting the battery for 30 seconds or more?

Yes, to no avail, although from what I can gather once the airbag system has triggered a fault it wont go without a proper reset anyway.
