:tongueincheek:
That would have been a lovely thing if left standard. Given there's no mention of any service history and it looks a bit bling and needs "tlc" it's worth half the asking price imo.

I'd be very wary of a full respray on one of those given a proper job would be several thousand quid.

Sorry to be a pest,

what's the general concensus on this one?

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/BMW+...

I'm really taken with the looks of it, and as those who know me will attest to, I have a bit of a thing for black cars.

Stu,

That looks to be a cracking car!

Only thing is, I would be interested to know when it was registered for the tax reasons, other wise it looks great!

I've had a '99 740i sport for nearly seven years and I wouldn't part with it. Brilliant performance/comfort/fuel economy combination (I managed nearly 32mpg last week on a 100 mile run from Maidenhead Berkshire to Somerset on 50/50 motorway 80mph and fast A roads). 30mpg on the motoway is dead easy and it gets around 22-23 in village/urban/school run usage. Find a good indy BMW specialist to look after it and you won't go wrong. Depreciation? What depreciation. Oh, and make sure it's pre-March 2001 for el cheapo Road Fund Licence.

I don't mind paying through the arse on tax for the right car, which a black 7 series really would be. I love black cars, and must have a 7 series. But there's so few about that fit the bill that I can't be *too* fussy. That one's down on the south coast somewhere, which is as far from me as you could realistically get in this country being as I'm way up in the north east. Sure is pretty though!

IF it was registered after the dreaded deadline am I right in thinking it'd be £400?

It's got fairly short tax on it, and 'ono' after the price, so I'm tempted to wade in with a low offer and take it from there if it all checks out with BMW and HPI etc, assuming it hasn't sold!

I'll be picking one up on monday I hope, tuesday at the latest, whatever happens, so I can't really be too selective.

What's your max budget??

This one looks loverly....that colour looks great with a bit of spit and polish.

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/948835.htm

I think you'll struggle to get what you want in the next week for a bargain price unless you're very lucky!!

Man after my own heart though, I see a car I like and want to be driving it home within the hour.

Patience is for the weak smile

Loads more info on the Ebay ad
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

They are feckin lovely things and I have one over my E39 touring if it weren't for my bloody dog.

That car is double the price of the black one, and it isn't worth twice the money. I think the black is a far better proposition

Cheers Dave, but as Okgo points out, it's a bit steep. It's not that I don't see it being worth the money, quite the opposite, but at 7k I'd probably just opt to stick another few k on top and come home with an E39 M5. I'm odd like that smile

Budget wise I've not got one really, but I'm relishing the challenge of finding a <4k minter for some reason. Never had a bargain barge before really smile

Maybe, maybe not. Supply and deman and all that. Well sorted 740's seem to be pretty rare.

autotrader said:
, it might need an air con regass and the drivers seat is worn on the bolster, the pixels on the dashboard display under speedo are slightly faded but work fine now and again (easy fix) but apart from that she's ok. RE ADVERTISED due to total timewasters .......
Aircon could be shot to the tune of thousands?? If it's just a re-gas then get it feckin regassed, it's only 65 quid! A 7 series with no AC is pretty unsaleable really.

Pixel fix can also be a hefty bill if you don't know where to get it done. Worn drivers seats are one of those niggly things that I would hate. The seats in the blue one look blissful.

The blue one is better specc'd, a lot less miles and has a good history. Plus you have some comeback with buying from a dealer.

You also run the risk of an 800mile round trip with the home leg on shanks' pony.

But then....you can;t argue with the price saving, it's worth ringing the guy up about the black one and trying to make as sure as you can that it's going to be worth the trip down there.

tempted believe me! But I've got a new bike to buy too, and a navara to do silly things to, so I'm trying not to rule out any chance of me moving house this year hehe

Black one - too cheap. Hmmmm...worth investigating history though. Could be a genuine bargain, perhaps.
Blue one - a little steep. Very clean looking and a seriously comprehensive ad, though. Worth a cheeky offer ?
This one has a few more miles, same colour combo, excellent spec and recent history, and is priced about right IMHO....

Right, sorry for going back a step here but I've found what I believe to be the perfect 7 series for me, I'm absolutely smitten with it.

BUT..........

There's one little problem, it's not a 740 or a 750, it's a 735! Sods law, but I'm starting to seriously consider embracing taking the sibling of the V8 range, it's that nice.

Is the difference in performance between the 735i and the 740i really that noticeable? Now, I know it's probably seen as sacrelige by 7 series fans, but I'm not scared of doing some tweaks here and there. Is there realistically anything that can be done to try and extract a bit more performance from the 735? What could one hope to achieve with say a remap, induction, exhaust, high flow cats, that sort of rubbish, noticeable difference?

I know it's never going to be a sports car, but if I could get a little bit more out of it I dare say I could forgive it being a little bit lower in the capacity stakes. I've also got a nitrous kit lying around, that'd be funny biggrin (sorry, I really am sensible and nice, and I won't bastidise it I promise).

But really, it's such a lovely car, and ticks every box. I'm a little bit disheartened that it's not a 740i, but I still really want it.

help....!!!!

I found myself looking at these cars despite being in no position to buy one.

Stumbled upon this.

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/982888.htm

Not much info in the ad but the dealer's own page has more info on it, I just can't seem to link straight to the car ad but here's the stock list where it's currently on the 3rd page. http://www.hillsoflymington.co.uk/147376/hills-sto...

Looks like it's had £1000 wiped off the asking price recently, worth a look surely.

Thanks for the link! I have emailed them about that one a few hours ago as it happens, but since I've found the one mentioned in my last post I'm less enthusiastic about it! hehe Honestly, I'm that fickle.

The only thing I don't like about the one at lymington is it's location, again right on the south coast so it's going to be a PITA to view it if I'm not bringing it home with me. Still, see what they come back with, I'm certainly not ruling it out.
