Well from the inside it is pretty and well designed.

Eh, is the cabrio (few inches up ^^^ ) a 1?

The review I've seen is that the handling is sublime, which I can beleive. The looks, otoh, leave a lot be be desired imho.

The new 5 series, externally, is definitely growing on me, but I hate the dashboard with a passion, so I doubt if I'll be in the market of one when I replace my existing 5. Which is a pity, cos it drives beautifully. I know design has to move on, but I think this car is one butt-ugly sob.

I've always been ambivalent towards Bangles designs.

But two things will hold true

1. The cars look so much better in the flesh.
2. Give it 2-3 years, and see what the competition looks like.

Remember the reception the E36 had when that arrived? People went hog wild over the fact that it "desecrated" what was a "true" BMW, the E30.

Funny how things change...

I still prefer the E30!

If I was getting a hire car and they offered me a 4 pot FWD Alfa or a RWD BMW 1 series, I'd go for the BMW. If it was MY money and I had to chose between them, it would be the Alfa.

Excellent RWD handling you use once a week at most. You have to live with the looks every day.

PS. Not that I would ever buy a 4 pot Alfa when they do a V6.

Vladd,

I am honestly not sure. However, can you imagine 5 different BMW ranges all looking very alike?

Do you think we can get this thread over the 100 posts?

Ted, What is the record anyway?

I know how you feel. We still had one in the family until a few months ago.

Yep it ain't pretty and shares its lines with the new Astra / Signum / 147..

But at least its not a fat, tall MPV shape like the 307, Civic, Golf etc

I think it'll be a lot better in the flesh, and will sell and sell, so get used to it guys !

Here's hoping the 3 door and 2 series are better looking, and I'll have one,

Oeeeeee, saw a dark blue conv 645er in the flesh and yes: awesome (at 90 mph) and that's where the new bmw-styling works:the vehicle looks long. The 1 looks lumpy like a 6 after a horizontal crash . . .
