Yeah and of course no one wll buy it because it is the only rwd car in its class and performs well.
Try to lose the reflex anti-BMW reaction.
Zod - it's not anti-BMW and given that most buyers will be women looking for shopping cars, they don't give a stuff about RWD. In fact, give them some snow and they'll be positively craving an alternative.
Regarding the performance - have you driven one?
Thought not.
Either way, I just don't like it.
M3 - yes please
BMW One - one too many IMHO
Well, I have to agree with most people here, it's horrid, and I bet if you looked hard enough, you would find that a majority of the car was designed at Longbridge by MG Rover and after BMW spat them out and took the Mini with them, they probably took this platform with them and put a new body shell on it and called it their own, just as they have with the Mini!
I reckon that it will have no interior space as being a rear wheel drive, there will be an effin' huge propshaft tunnel and rear axle arrangement which will eat into the rear leg room and cabin space so you will have to sit there with your knees round your ears just because you want to own a cheap and nasty BMW!
Another car from BMW that's like a broken pencil............ pointless!

Some of the people on here are completely missing the point.
This is all about marketing and placing a product in a market place against its direct 'price' rivals - if you look at the compeition then you start to rationalise it.
I suppose the question is - do you buy cars with your head (with an eye for costs / deprecitaion) or your heart?

Looks like a plastic pedal car whacked in a kiln for too long. Utterly disgusting design, driving that in town will get you laughed at. Seeing as most BMW drivers are in for image this will not go down well.
As for the short wheelbase, RWD and that power up front, I trust it comes with all the ego-toys like EBD and Traction Control.
Oh dear, oh dear. I bet VW are breathing a sigh of relief at this one, it makes the new Golf look pretty.

Unfortunately, I think that it's you who is missing the point.
The general public (in the UK at least) buy cars primarily for the aesthetics. Before you ask, there is plenty of market research that show this to be the case.
Just look at the 318ti - that was supposed to take on Ford in the budget class. Hardly sold though did it!
Zod said:Why? If a car looks ugly then tell it like it is. Nothing to do with the badge on the nose. It's looks shit, as do a hundred and one other cars that are not Beemers (usually Malaysian or Taiwanese town-boxes or 4x4) , BMW just happen to make a fair proportion of the ugly ones at the moment. Hard to swallow if you like Beemers, but true. Rich...

Oh dear.
My recommendation if you want a fast, fun, small car with BMW prestige? A nicely restored 2002Tii - probably the best car BMW have ever made and you'll get plenty of change from 16k even after you've added some modern conveniences.
Personally I think it looks like the recently replaced Mazda 323 SP20 with hints of Nissan Sunny/Almera/Pulsar (delete depending on market).
New Mazda 3 is a nicely styled small car........
