RE: PH2 Tested: Ducati Diavel
Discussion
Just read this article and think I have found the perfect bike. Been riding for years and have finally decided to give up the sports bike and try something different. Not old enouhg to go down the cruiser harley route and think this makes a perfect replacement.
As far as the people thinking of doing thier bike test ...... do it.

Test rode one in March when they first came out. Not as good as the reviews suggest. Far too complicated - took the dealer 10 minutes to get it started as it has keyless ignition. When we eventually got it started we then had to go through screens of menues to select what riding setting you want? Its not the bike you can just jump on a ride straight away. Can't understand why you need all this complication on what is a very simple machine: turn key, start engine, select gear and ride away.....
Also it has very firm suspension and is very noisy due to those exhausts which could become a bind on a long journey. Also like all these new LCD displays the instruments are quiet difficult to see in bright sunlight. Ended up buying an MT-01 which is a far nicer bike. I also heard on one of the bike forums the other day that it is quite common for the superbike engine to let go. One guy had his engine go after only 3600kms. Ducati replaced it free of charge but begs the question what it goes outside of the warranty.
Sorry but lets agree to disagree, you can simply get on , start the bike (no issues) and get going. I have owned many many bikes and this is the most fun bike I have ever ridden and I wont be changing it any time soon. Ridden 5k on it and I still get the same buzz every time I take it out. So if in doubt, take one out and decide for yourself Also it has very firm suspension and is very noisy due to those exhausts which could become a bind on a long journey. I test rode a Harley today, and I may put my Diavel up for sale? It would be the cheapest bike available!
Nooooo, the Diavel is the only bike around that would tempt me away from my Night Rod Special.... It felt more like a big naked trail bike to me. Upright position and wide bars. Ultimately the knee/hip angle didn't work for me (old injuries) and I found it more uncomfortable than either a feet forward cruiser or pure sports bike
So I still need to go for a multiple bike solution, rather than have one bike trying to do both jobs
I've ridden both the Diavel and the V-Rod. The V-Rod is surprisingly good, especially for a Harley!
However, the Diavel is a stonking bike to ride, the only slight issue is the headlight, which is hideous.
I rode the Diavel expecting it to be rubbish, I was hugely surprised by it. Very much better than I expected.

Agree, there has to be a decent mod to replace it.I loved the bike though, apart from the engine, which was really harsh and snappy!
I did manage to sell it for what I had paid for it a year ago!
I'm now waiting for my HD Breakout to turn up later this week, and, believe it or not, it actually handles better than the Diavel!
