Discussion
I use plugs with my Shoei multitec

If you have a good lid you may as well spend a few quid on plugs instead?

Quick update, went to get a C3 yesterday. Found it to be really uncomfortable, tried several sizes but couldn't get it to fit comfortably at all.
Whilst I was there tried on a few others and discovered I've got a Shoie/Arai shaped head, definitely not a Schuberth/AGV shaped one.
Oh well back to the drawing board, just glad I didn't buy one off t'internet.

I have a Shoei/Arai head too, so I managed to find a Raid 2 online for £130 (hein g).
Nice lid, really comfy but noisier than the £40 Takachi that it replaces.
It's a shame there isnt a noise test for lids, as it was a main consideration in buying a new one.
I had the same problem when trying on a Schuberth (even though I couldnt afford it) where my face didnt fit in
I have written a strongly worded email to Shoei

Well nothing has really changed, so appears Schuberth will still be some of the most quiet...you still need to wear earplugs with them (Unless youve gone deaf already!)
noise level can be subjective...always wear earplugs

My old Roof RO10 was very quiet, I even went to the trouble of crash testing it for you and I can safely say it did it's job very well.
I found that lid (in exactly the same colour) was also very quiet and also found that it crashed well too. I replaced it with a Shoei XR1100 which must be the noisiest helmet known to man. Great visor mechanism, though and very light for the money at 1335g. I now wear ear plugs.
How heavy are the Schuberths?

I've got the Qwest... its noisy as hell without the chin curtain hingmy in but quite quiet with it.... but I took it out as soon as it got sunny as i thought it would be cooler. Might try with it back in.
I've got a Qwest too, is the chin curtain that perforated thing or is it something more advanced? I've got that and a whisper strip on and would say it's still noisy as hell. I do like the visor mechanism with the locked/open a crack set up although that whistles like a fecker when it's cracked open, d'oh!Cheers,
Rob

yes just that perforated thing. in the winter, when I don't really ride much, with that on, and all the vents closed its much quieter than when its hot, everything open (inc visor). But its my first "road lid" so nothing to compare it to. I didn't even realise the visor locked shut at first and thought i'd bought a wrongun but guess you cant have everything! One reason for getting it was it was meant to be quiet/light. Cheers,
Rob

Had some acoustic foam lying around and I've just 'modified' my XR1000 behind the cheek pads like in one of the suggestions. Seems quite tight to get on but I'll report back on noise levels after my next ride.Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
