Scorcher - doesnt the blade come with ABS??

For my part, I'm all in favour. The top racers have these systems, and they have skills waaaaaay above mine. So if these systems can save those great riders, then they will surely save me one day too. And the best part is, I probably wont even know it.
Blade comes with ABS if you want it.Or without if you prefer. The 2012 model still doesn't come with TC though.
If you read through interviews with racers they're not all in favour of all these electronics. Some would prefer them without and get back to racing the old fashion way.Which is good in my book.

As a newbie to bikes which is the best at this level right now? Is it the BMW S1000RR, the Kawa Ninja or another bike?

EDIT: After a bit of research I see it's the Honda Fireblade!

I'm not sure any of these are a great choice for a 'newbie'!
A stock fireblade recently hit 200mph in the US (ok, they did tape the rider down for aerodynamics) and even with electronic aids, a bike won't be able to sort out nearly as many mistakes as a modern car capble of that will.
Saying that, take it sensibly and any bike is fine - only goes as fast as you make it, etc.

From what I've seen, the BMW S1000RR has the edge it terms of midrange/road use while the ZX10R just pips it in all out power.

The fireblade will be the most comforting; which for many will also mean the fastest.

TC aside the bike is still waaaaay over priced. BSB aside the bike is lacking as a road and track bike (in comparison to the competition value wise). For me the Yam isnt the thinking mans option.
Yes theyre expensive (and which one isnt at the moment?), but that statement requires clarification.

Is a 6-mode traction control system a practical way to retrospectively learn to spin the rear up on exit? Maybe by reducing it a notch each time youre comfortable with how far its stepping out? scratchchin

Given the level of competion in price, performance and exclusivity the latest R1 IMHO is the worst value 1000 out today. It is still an awesome bike though - just not as competitive in most areas as the rest. Even though it pains me to say it, a new BMW/Fireblade would be money better spent (Im a Kawasaki man though & through)

All IMHO of Course smile

they look so fat and heavy , the KTM , Ducati Aprilia all look so much better than this , saying that it looks good in race trim but it seam its only the factory bikes that are any good , if going jap it would habe to be Suzuki i think and that hard for me to say as i hate Suzukis , but its the only jap one that really seams to work on track as a supersport spec bike

Great write up, I especially liked the explanation of the cross-plane crank.

Just a pedantic note that supersport=600 and superbike=1000cc (and bigger twins).

I can see that from a designers perspective TCS etc is a handy tool as it can make up for some misgivings in the handling department (or lack of rear traction obviously).
Electronics are relatively cheap these days and no doubt far cheaper than intricate suspension design.

Personally, I prefer a well balanced bike and the feeling that my wrists (and some skill) are taking care of the rest.

Not for me.
