I don't. I've got a car, because I can't be arsed getting cold & wet and slip-sliding all over the place. I like riding for fun, although it does get more than three runs a year.

Not sure I see the point in riding a superbike through winter.
To be fair, how many superCARs get pampered and shoved into an expensive and cosseting garage during winter?

I dont imagine that a Ferrari 458 Italia is much fun when its raining, bitterly cold and you cant turn the traction control down, oh and its no longer the colour you bought it! I imagine the fun is somewhat diminished too....

  • Shrugs* I dunno. Just never heard of a Brit riding their bike three times a year. Granted, that is as many times as it is sunny over here :-)
I'm in England. Most people I know in the UK with bikes hardly ever ride them....

Seriously???? I think cars are MORE fun in the rain and wet! And the fact that its cold out is utterly irrelevant in the car unless you're trying to set some sort of Ring track record. You're still warm and safe inside the car.

Bikes suck in the cold/wet/snow because its easier to crash if you're not careful but cars are awesome biggrin
I've never had as much fun in a car as I've had in winter (probably because I've owned crap underpowered cars). But if I ever own a Ferrari, I'm DEFINITELY taking it out for a hoon first day it snows. Unfortunately I don't have the balls/skillz to do the same on the bike

Not all of them. My kit car is no fun in the cold or wet. Lots of BHP in a light weight car and RWD. Plus no heater, windscreen or room. Not fun. And very easy to spin as I have done when cit was just cold and the back kicked out. was just going down the gears for a tight corner at 15MPH

well mate I'm not sure your opinion applies here or your example is valid because thats not a car...its a four wheeled bike! biggrin

Is that as quick as your Blade?

Not at all. Quick for a car, and have fun with M3 etc... but not in the same league when its comes to out right speed. Corners it will keep up or even have to back off the throttle. Anything the bike can open up and they leave the kit cars

Good for you, but for most other people its a different story.

Its one thing dropping a £15k superbike, its another putting a £150k car in a hedge.

And yes, if you can afford a Ferrari its likely that you can afford to prang it. But, the average owner of a supercar isnt going to want to stack it, so will try their best to keep it safe. Why spend money on something you can avoid?

I honestly couldnt give a flying fish wether this bike was the best in the world or not, it could have 250bhp and 250gp weight and handling and I wouldnt want one.

Because it's got a BMW badge on it, and I'd rather ride something that when I'm out and about people dont think I'm an a-hole, like they do with the BMW car drivers.

Funny - in the 70's people thought the same about Jap cars and bikes..

How things change.

It's nice to see the UK (Triumph) and Europeans (BMW, Ducati) doing so well against
the well established Jap bikes.

That BMW is just fantastic smile

BMW bike - Not the same image as a BMW car... No more than someone seeing a 'blade and thinking "they must be a pensioner" because of the image of Honda cars. Two things most people think of with BMW bikes is old man bikes and the police (yes, I ride a BMW).

Totally appreciate the opinions of other bikers to BMW bikers, I associate them with the Boorman wannabe's more than the police (they are still on pan-euros in my head), but I have such a personal hatred for the cars that this is an unfortunate overspill of opinion. The new mini gets it too.

I wouldn't necessarily say that... cold/wet/ice/snow etc can be great fun and a great opportunity to actually "play" with and learn a car like that, without the higher speeds necessary in perfect conditions, hopefully letting you exploit the car more when the conditions are good. I'd only be comfortable doing the equivalent on a bike however on an old snotter...

If it spills over in to Minis, then fair enough. That sounds more like an irational hatered of BMW's to me, which is fine. We all have our own. Mine is anything that looks like it spends mote time being cleaned than ridden smile.

I'd argue Boorman wannabe is not BMW's but just the GS boxers, and then the clean ones with the matching BMW gear and metal box paniers, but maybe thats cos I ride a BMW (not a GS).

I can't argue that the GS or the s1000r are rubbish, becuase they arent, they are even both class leaders. I have no argument with the people who ride them, they have chosen a top bike in its class and to an extent they use them too (ignoring spotless GS's and all-the-gear-no-idea s1000r riders)

it's all about the cars. and not even the cars too (I've driven a few and thought they were ok), it's the drivers. on my commute I'll see 10 people driving like penosis, and 8 of them will be BMWs. everything from missing indicators to cutting lanes for slip roads, it's almost always a BM. I even know BM drivers who are nice guys, but still drive like bells.

I couldnt leave the house knowing that people would be thinking that about me, instantly presuming that I am a penwah before I've even turned the key, and I know people would think that of me, as I think that of them.

So it is the actual car that is possessing them and causing them to drive badly.

Any other inanimate objects you find have a similar effect?.

It might be... it could be some kind of inflated 'superior than thou' attitude by the driver for being in one, it might even be witchcraft at the factory... it's definately more than coincidence

You could also say that the Iphone is similar, in the way that people get a superior feeling by owning one, despite not actually having anything better than anyone else, but it doesnt make them phone people in a way that agrevates other phone users...

this has raised a debate at work, I'll get back to you.

Well that's just ruined my year and I probably won't sleep for weeks now. Someone that I've never met or am ever likely to might think that I'm a bellend because they don't like the badge on my bike. rolleyes
