1996, (I think) the brand new GSXR 600 was just about to be released and I WANTED one, all the bike mags raved about it. The first GSXR in the 600 class I believe.
I think they came out in the Jan, I'd got mine by the second week of Feb ....................... Utter tat, gutless, would not fuel correctly if the temp was under 10 degrees outside and the brakes were wooden, and they would not stop the bike.
Last time I trusted a review. ......
The following year they were raving about the new GSXR 750. I'll never forget the review and one particular comment. "As they described one way they had lightened the engine they informed us (the collected media) that 35grams had been saved by using hollow bolts in the engine casing ...... I snapped the lead in my pencil from the excitemnet as I wrote it all down" .....
That was worth a tenth then

Flawed though the MVs might be...slap in a Microtec ECU and cure the fuelling ills but even if you don't MV riding experiences are always amazing. They just have a lot of character that no Japanese bikes can match. I rode the Ninja 600 and the Nija 10R and both are brilliant but nothing matches the feeling as the MV. It feels like the bike is alive 
Well my friend bought a new F4 when it came out, I had a ZX10r and was utterly jealous . . . . then I rode it . . . yes the machining and fasteners were beautiful, it looked stunning but it really was not 14K's worth of bike, the bodywork was thin and fragile, the underseat exhaust was crude with crap welds and yes it trapped your thumbs on full lock. The customer service was a joke too, it was recalled for the airbox mod, the letter stating it could be dangerous to ride before the mod was done, would the local dealer pick it up from 9 miles away ? nope. Its a shame they don't sort it out before the launch and fanfare, come on Triumph,step in and make that 1000cc sports bike with character and a decent build quality for a reasonable price.

That's besides the point you shouldn't be buying a new bike then buying a new race ecu to make it rideable.Massive cock up.
Yes it is a stunning bike and yes it is Italian so dodgy electrics/fuelling but I believe the people who buy these bikes buy them for their looks and keep kept in a garaged that's carpeted!
used 3 times a year so for 99.9% of the rest of us Triumph and Honda's are a better choice for daily use and commuting - but that is not the point of this bike.
I would like a ride to see how it compares with an old fireblade and wether you have to change gear alot more similar to my old FZR Genesis.
No I do not want one but I like the looks.

Other writers have got this bike sussed - it frankly isn't as good as a many other bikes in the way that a lot of Italian bikes aren't as good as something else - but they have either looks or that thing called character. Personally I had a lot of Guzzis (cos they were cheap) which had way more character than I'd have liked - but if you are looking for something that makes you feel special then I guess why not get an MV?
After all the number of people who can really exploit a modern superbike must be very limited, so if its a pose mobile you want in the way of say a Harley but without the mid life crisis banker image this is a pretty fun way to go.
