Apparently MCN prefers the BMW for cornering, and weren't too keen on the Panigale. I can't get the site to show the article. Has anyone read it?

Yes I've read it. It's not they don't like the Panigale (it comes out 2nd out of all the bikes, the highest they've had a Ducati in a large group test), it's just they think the BMW is brilliant. The Panigale only beats it for equipment, electronics & desirability whilst they've rated the BMW higher for performance (both on & off track), manageability, fun & value. They are rated equally for comfort & build quality.

The Panigale rates higher than all the other bikes, 3rd is RSV4 APRC, 4th ZX-10R ABS, 5th CBR1000RR Fireblade, 6th MV Augusta F4RR Corsacorta.

Thanks, not quite what the ducati forum were saying then where is seems to be doom and gloom central. I'm gonna have to test drive my first ever Ducati frown, smile

I know what's wrong with the Panigale. It's bloody hard to draw a cartoon of it, because it already look like a cartoon cry

Ends up just looking like a crap drawing hehe

At £20,000 it's more of a lifestyle choice than anything else. The pricing differential is back so Ducati gets some exclusivity back over the other bikes.

In all honesty an S1000RR with £6000 worth of extras would be something special to say the least. Or a Blade with £10000 and so on.

Not be long now untill I get to ride the Panigale back too back with the S1000RR.

That Ducati had better be good.

They said the Panigale would have been good enough to beat last years BMW, but not the new 'heavily revised under the skin' 2012 model.

They also said the BMW was more 'clinical' and less involving, though it obviously does the business round track & on the road.

They also said they'd all have a Panigale if they had the money.

What surprised me was the lap times for the different riders, especially the little Italian racer!

I'd like to think they are both brilliant machines. Far too good for your average rider, so ultimately it comes down to other matters as to which you purchase, whether that be the Ducati as your buying a piece of art & some degree of exclusivity, or the BMW because then you can brag its the quickest this/that.

I did another 150 miles on the 1199 today, and believe it to be utterly awesome. I am quite sure I'd think the same of the BMW. To be fair though, to me, the additional 6k (or whatever) was worth it. I saw the Ducati in a magazine lady year & though 'I have to have this'. Never went to look at the BMW despite its rave reviews as just didn't do it for me.

Be interested to hear your thoughts when you test one. I've never ridden any other 'big' bike so have nothing to compare against, and have very little time for views of magazines or pro riders as most of time both have hidden agenda's.

What revs are you using as I know you will laugh out loud when you eventually pin in the the shift light in 2nd?

First 600 miles at up to 6000 revs. Have ventured over a few times, albeit not dramatically.

Currently at circa 350 miles, do should be serviced by mid May ready for a track day or your choice.

"Panigaaallleee" smile

But 20k+ is too much for unproven and shunned technology.

And it is just so hard to love the utilitarian B M W sleep

Meh, give me an RSV4 smokin or even the Blade teacher for speed, originality, and some fire in the belly. Awesome machines.

I'm really looking forward to having a go on the Ducati like I was with the BMW.

I really hope I'm not disapointed like I was with the BM as a road bike.

Personally, I don't think you're going to find any of the litre class bikes significantly lacking in ability, unless you're giving it 10 10ths on the track. Most is going to be down to personal preference and 'feel'

Just read on the TDR forums that the Panigale S is failing a lot of TD noise tests, even with baffles and wadding shoved into the exhaust it's still coming in at just over 105db. Seems like a bit of an oversight as the track is where you'd really want to use the thing.

How many tracks around the world (where the Panigale is sold) have noise testing though?. It would be a bit much to expect the manufacturers to know the noise limits of every track.

If it is a UK specific issue maybe the UK importers should add a "Not legal for track use" stamp on the exhaust. hehe
