What do you guys do regarding gear - helmets etc? Do all your passengers have their own, do you lend them one of yours, or do you have a spare set of gear for passengers?
Ive got quite a few friends willing to come out, but I dont have a spare helmet, and my head is XS size, so even if I did it wouldnt fit anyone! I was considering getting a medium or something, just so my buddies could come out for a ride. Is that daft and a waste of money?? Do your passengers usually have their own stuff?

I've got spare lids, but not really comfortable taking a pillion without body armour too. Helmet is bare minimum really.

I always tend to keep my old gear when I replace it for pillion use, meaning I've got an old helmet, boots and set of textiles that a pillion can use. The girlfiend got all her own kit after a couple of test rides though, and has now got her own bike too which is way better

I have the same dilema, my girlfriend will in my view need to have her own kit before I'm happy to take her on the bike despite that she thinks she can just borrow one of my spare helmets and be fine. This is obviously irrespective of the fact I'll tone down all my riding with her on the back. I guess ultimately my credit card will have to take the strain as a compromise

I never, ever take pillions.
Ive actually engineered all three bikes so they cant take passengers. Too heavy, too much responsibility.

I have my mums helmet that I can borrow if I take people out on it. Only really take my mum out on it, but do want to take my friend out in the summer so shall lend her my spare gloves and textile kit and helmet. I dont like taking people out unless thye have helmet, gloves and proper jacket as minimum. I would feel responsible if they came off and were hurt because they were not wearing proper kit.

I understand this, the only accident I've had other than a low speed drop was soneone pulling out on me with gf on the back while doing 30mph. We both came off, luckily she was wearing my best gear, I was wearing textiles and mashed up my knee a bit, she landed on her feet unscathed. I don't like taking pillions who aren't bikers out of guilt if something goes wrong now.

The one i hate is women claiming to be really into bikes, etc, etc and just being passengers. so few proper female riders out there, even now. Owning a lid doesnt make you a biker. If you want to ride, get your bloody own!!

I love taking pillions, but only if I know they're going to be relaxed. A nervous pillion can really upset the stability of the bike. I've got a few disclaimers which I keep in my top box that I make them sign if they really want to come on.
I've got a bunch of a couple of helmets and an RST suit, gloves and boots, which I used when I was learning for them to use.

I love taking pillions. After the first time out with my gf on the back she was wearing my old gear (and mums old helmet). She really enjoyed it so we went out and bought her some of her own stuff. Still need to gets some boots for her though.

I've taken people pillion lots of times, though. Generally have had enough gear from friends and family to cover jacket, helmet, boots, gloves - and sometimes trousers, too.

Have got spare helmets, jacket, gloves, trousers ...if they havnt got their own...regulars tend to have their own kit riding a bike (for many)is about sharing the experience, having fun together, and maybe the pillion will want to do it again or get their own bike ...isnt that how many bikers started? I know I did - I still have many fond memories of pillion rides on older relatives motorcycles when I was young

What bike do you have, VH? The most important question of the week I think. Ah right. To be fair, riding with a pillion requires a different enough set of talents that i'd rather be bad at that and cocentrate on being a better solo rider, but i take your point. Also i'd imagine that if your partner rides as well, youre less likely to have to give up when them noisy little things come along.
