ha ha... i'd say there is plenty of supporting evidence on which to base that opinion though...

No! It's a crash. Fast forward a frame or two and he is in the air and the bike is tumbling to its grave.

Yep, but there are plenty of times when he has stayed on when lesser riders would have taken a tumble

FFS. There are times when I've stayed on my bike too when many a better a rider would've fallen off.

I include a "highside" at the Melbourne Loop earlier this year when somehow I landed back in the seat and near enough shat myself.

If you ant to see some proper saves, then look at Edwards & Hayden saving it on their knees last year.

So you're comparing yourself to a moto GP rider now then. Me too, I've come close once or twice and avoided a high-side or two on the cat and fiddle but that's not whilst riding MotoGP bikes. I remember watching Vali fall off get back on and still win the race on a very wet Donnington park a number of years ago. Thats talent

No. I said:

Note I said "better" ie they are better than me. A lot better for clarity, choosing the Donington race you quoted they can lap 17 seconds quicker than me.

For info Rossi, didn't win that race in 2009. He fell of at the Foggy Esses in the lead and finished 5th. Dovizioso won the race from Edwards and De Puniet.

Must be nice in your dreamworld.

I agree with your assessment of his talent, but don't think his retirement has any bearing on the state of the sport. You will always get the odd person who takes a different approach to everyone else. I'd say it is only an indication of something majorly wrong with the sport of you had numerous people leaving for the same reason.

Stoner has always said that his intention was never to hang around for a long time and try to break lots of records. He came, he saw, he conquered, and then he left like he said he would.
He stated that the direction the sport is going is ONE of the reasons he has decided to call time on his career. Too me this is a very sad statement from one (if not the) of the top riders on the grid. I've watched Moto GP for the past 6 Seasons a relatively short time compared to some on here I'm sure, And frankly it has slowly become a very boring form of Motorsport IMO. When you get more formula 1 overtakes then a Moto GP race the state of the sport needs to be analysed. If it wasn't for Crutchlow doing so well then I don't think I would go out my way to catch a race on TV, unlike I do if a WSBK race is on.

All IMO of course. It may just be me, since Marco Simoncelli passed away my passion for the sport has somewhat diminished. He was the one guy you could depend on to make a boring race interesting.

There are plenty of overtakes and battles in MotoGp, problem is, at the moment they are mid field position which the directors generally dont focus on! I found it more boring a few years back when Rossi was literally winning race after race by seconds, very rarely did you expect him to loose. This season so far has been quite a tight run thing between Stoner, Lorenzo and Pedrosa, with Cal not too far behind!

F1 has artificially enhanced overtaking with the invention of DRS and to a lesser extend the tyres recent quick degradation time! If it wasnt for those items i doubt you would see any overtakes! Check out the penultimate race, Kimmi had one chance to pass Vettel before his tyres were gone!

The wsb last weekend at Donnington was awesome racing, 4 and then 5 fighting for the lead both races! So whats that down to, the factory teams being closer or the riders, your guess is as good as mine, but when an ageing Biaggi was dicing it up, i would say it is down to rider levels being closer, in my opinion of course!

I have always enjoyed both MotoGp and WSB, you get the better racing in WSB but you most definitely get the better riders to amaze you in MotoGp. I also think its somewhat ironic that most* people loved Rossi, he drew huge crowds, but to me it got boring as you just knew he was odds on favourite, but still the crowds came and numbers were high! The last few years we have had different champions and the sport is seen as static?? I personally wouldnt know who to put my money on at any given race this year, that has got to be good surely?

I know this will cause a fuss, but on what grounds is Stoner possibly the greatest rider ever?!? You've got the likes of Surtees who retired at the top to go on to become F1 champ, Agostini and all his achievments (including wins at the TT!), Spencer and his twin class antics, Doohan who often won races by 30 seconds or more at his peak etc etc. He had a good record on the Ducati and won the title easily last year yes, but greatest ever?

Penultimate paragraph in the main article suggests that Marquez is hotly tipped to get the Repsol ride. How? A rookie can't join a factory team.
Honda will be pushing hard for a change in this rule, however, Marc will still end up with a full on works spec bike regardless of the paint scheme.

I'm not his biggest fan [it's known] but it will be a great loss to the sport as he is the one to beat. Love the slow-mo slides, control or what. It just underlines that Moto GP is in crisis as I can see more entertainment parked up on our local ring road.

Only time will see if they change the rule, although there's a good chance.

Full on works isn't the same as a factory ride officially. I know it's bending the rules but he won't get Stoners ride officially.

It would also leave Pedrosa out of a ride as they have announced that they won't run the Repsol team with two Spaniards. Personally, I can't see them getting the rule changed as Ezpeleta is pretty adamant that it will be staying. Marquez to Gresini on a works bike?

Never met him, only know of his personality/persona through interviews etc so kinda dislike him for those reasons alone.
Phuck me though he can ride a bike.
Im a huge 'Rossi fanboy' yet i cant help think that give them both Hondas and Stoner would wipe the floor with him............
His Talent alone should outway his 'underwhelming' personality.
