Should be at Mallory myself tomorrow.
I work just up the road from Mallory and (as forecast) it has been raining fairly hard and consistently since about 8am or so today. No floods as yet that i'm aware of but suspect it is going to be a bit crappy under foot tomorrow whatever tomorrows weather maybe.
Still, am looking forward to it and hoping to get a bit of an "ejucation" from my dad about all things 60's cafe racers.

We're still gonna go assuming we're camping, and see what happens

Well, what was planned as a weekend camping trip turned into a day trip for us! Seems that the Saturday's becoming more of a modern trackday than old bike one, which is a shame. Spoke to loads of people who couldn't get an entry (even though some have some really, really interesting old bikes), yet there were loads and loads of people on normal, new bikes (R1s, Bandits, Fazers etc). There's always been some, which is fine but this year the new stuff was given three sessions, the old stuff (like my brother was in, on 20s stuff) was allowed two and the really old bikes were only given one session. Doesn't seem to be in the spirit of the event, in my eyes. Anyway. The reason we didn't camp (even though we paid for it) was that where we were sent was having cars towed out by a tractor when we arrived!! This was the scene later in the day, where our tent would've been: As I said, I don't want to be too negative as it's still a great event, just a few things need to be sorted I think. Some more general pics: Schwantz's bike: Lots more tasty two-strokes: Norton: Mamola's tank: Big Vincent: G50/7R: Wonder who's car this is: Pete was there too... Ah well, there's always next year

I heard that 1300 entries were turned away
I think its time to move to a bigger venue and have more stringent rules of the criteria to enter. As much as I like R1's, unless its David Jeffries or one of the GP bikes, the festival isn't the place for them.
Due to it's popularity, maybe its time to consider a 3 day event??

It has that proper, old track feel to it which suits the event I think. I think it's a bit off to charge people to come in and watch on the Saturday, only for half the bikes to be nothing more unusual than you'd see on any 'normal' trackday. Maybe a cut-off date of something like 1990 - except where special dispensation is gained. There were some lovely RC45s, Norton F1s and things which it's nice to see out on track. It's not an easy one, just a frustrating one for those people who have old bikes who get very few chances to ride on track. If you're on a fast new bike, you have chances several times a week

I couldn't make it in the end due to work commitments but nice to see some of the bikes that were. Lloyd the owner of this bike lives about a mile from me. He is a proper legend who raced at the TT and as a privateer in GP's in the late 60's early 70's and has great stories to tell. He bought the ROC yam in the pic last year along with a spare engine and running gear. Harris are currently building a frame/tank for him so he will have two YZF500's He owns dozens of bikes from manx nortons to a TZ750 (brand new from Padgetts in 2009) TZ250,TZ350,Desmocedici,RC45 etc etc. Anyone who has all those bikes but lives in a house with a mud drive,3ft high grass with an old roller round the back sat on bricks is cool as f k in my book

I was there Saturday only, was also refused an entry way back in April. Some of the old stuff was going round at a respectable pace, helped by the lack of chicanes of course. I raced at Mallory pre and post bus-stop and as I haven't been for a few years I was glad to see increased runoff at Devils Elbow and Gerards exit compared to back in my day, all they need to do is get rid of that f king poxy Edwinas and it'll be back to a proper racetrack. Of course this will never happen, pandering to the BSB w kers will rule the day. Hats off also to the travelling marshals who kept some semblance of order on track and stopped the silliness from getting out of hand. A good day apart from a few rain showers but more than made up for when Kevin Schwantz was circulating on a Gixxer 750 with some of the lads keeping him company.
