Think I saw him on Wednesday evening on the TF session? Was this when the time was set? Their were certainly some quick bikes there, not too much on track either with the Rock Am Ring keeping plenty away I guess (it was manic near the GP circuit).

Not saying it's not an awesome and difficult place or that those who are quick there aren't to be respected. However I do feel the difficulties are over played by some and my previous post was from direct experience from both sides of the 'pit wall'.
Have you been? Fair enough if you have but if not I suggest you do because it'll likely change your perception.
rolleyesYes - many times "on both sides of the pit wall". Again - I think it's an awesome challenge BUT over played by some, that's all.

There is no need for the rolling of eyes, perhaps you think it's over played because you have owned the cars you have and obviously raced them by the sounds of it. To the likes of the average PH reader we are not making a big deal of it because it is a big deal, it is a massive deal. That kind of talent is beyond 95% of this forum, and it seems your the only one who feels that way about this achievement. Why not give it a go yourself.

Dale, Hi mate. Are you still in touch with Bren? What are his thoughts on this? You guys weren't far off in the red baron days were you? 7.34 btg springs to mind (I know 25 secs is massive before all the people who haven't been shout me down.)

I had a jahrekarte for most years between 1997 and 2008 and for anyone who thinks the Ring is overplayed, once you have over 1000 laps and can put in sub 8 min btg laps on a TF day all the time, then come back and give us your experience.

I think unless someone has placed well in a VLN race, they've not got much to comment on.

I thibk you'll find it a litle bit quicker than that!

From what I could see, it was 1mph fater than SX (which surprised me as I'd always thought SX was the fastest part of a BTG lap. Not much in it I guess and mebbes Andy's cojones grew a little after Aremberg!

I was under the impression that slick tyres could not be used on the Ring. At least for the purpose of setting a lap record with a road going vehicle.
Anyone know if this is the case?

rolleyes to your rolling eyes. :P DL said that GM was off the pace and GM has been there more than a few times.

Yes the bloke that set the record in the Zonda R had never been there before but its a VERY VERY different proposition in a car vs. being on a bike.
Unless you've been there on a bike you've just got no idea sorry to say. I've been there on bike and in car and yes to go quickly in a car there takes skill, knowledge, talent, ballz, commitment, etc., but on a bike its just something else if you want to go quickly. And I'm not trying to start an argument about which is harder in general re: bike vs. car on tracks, just that specifically the Ring is much easier in a car than on a bike imho of course

I don't know all the names of the corners in German but I do know that while Bergwerk isn't that hard in a car, on a bike you have to watch out as for some reason this corner tends to accumulate a fine layer of dust/gravel that can lead to a KSI. Well at least whenever I've been there anyway.

Stunning performance, absolute balls of steel. Think of the other bikers though....."yeah, I'm really on it today, right on the limit...this will be goos" only to have matey scream past you on 1 wheel!

Track looks ste in places. Why is there so much writing on it?!

That was insane. So scary to watch. Massive respect. I wonder how much faster many pros would be too, really not very much at all I reckon, that was an incredible lap, amazing skill and commitment on display.

This is the case, which is why he was on Road Legal tyres wink

Dunlop also sent me some proper sticky rubber to have a bash with. There's so much to tell you there, that I'll write a whole review late. But 7m10s, and they're road-legal

This is a coincidence as i was just talking to dale about this on Saturday morning. His garage was fitting me a new tyre as id had a blow out on the ring. he used to ride for bike magazine and gave up his attempt at a lap record due to breaking his back twice.

Yep I remember reading that or someone telling me, was it on a K7 GSXR 1000? Believe he had a 7min 30 lap as it was but was going for the record.

Absolute class... only a Dilettante could critisise to get to where he is & what has gone into to achieve that time with knowledge & prep etc.

Carefully watching he would of been late 6's without traffic. On the curbs as well, mental!!!

Truly incredible & an outstanding achievement.

Lol at Pugseys comments above.

I think you'll find most top circuit racers wouldn't even attempt a fast lap of the ring due to the dangers involved. Why do you think the guys who are fastest at the tt each year generally under achieve when it comes to circuit racing? Because its a completely different mindset, thats why.

Thats why folk on here are so impressed with this lap. Not only is the guy an excellent rider but that level of commitment on a bike is something very few riders could ever contemplate.

I see in your garage though that you have a panigale. Go & try the same on your bike, which should be every bit as quick as this guys R1, then post up your results. I think you may have a little more respect for the guy when you realise what he's done.

Pugsey claims he has 'been on both sides of the pitwall'. What do we reckon, has Pugsey ever done an 8min BTG on 4 wheels or... Does he even know what 9mins BTG is on 2 wheels or his Panigale? scratchchin
