rolleyesYes - many times "on both sides of the pit wall". Again - I think it's an awesome challenge BUT over played by some, that's all.
There is no need for the rolling of eyes, perhaps you think it's over played because you have owned the cars you have and obviously raced them by the sounds of it. To the likes of the average PH reader we are not making a big deal of it because it is a big deal, it is a massive deal. That kind of talent is beyond 95% of this forum, and it seems your the only one who feels that way about this achievement. Why not give it a go yourself.
Read my posts again. I've gone out of my way to agree that a) The 'Ring is an awesome challenge and b) that the guy in the vid is a talented hero. ALL I've said is the "knowing the 'Ring" bit is overplayed by some (just some) That's all. I've not commented or down played this guy's achievement. Anyone would think I'd kicked your favourite puppy! Sorry that you got the wrong impression.

Cheers.

Blooming EVERYBODY!!

I HAVEN'T down played this guys achievement, skill or bravery - quite the opposite. I HAVEN'T downplayed the challenge of the 'Ring. All I've said is that the learning of it is sometimes overplayed maybe. And what I've seen seems to support this. Nothing more.

Oh, and I doubt I'd crack 15 mins on my new bike lol. I'm most certainly in the 'all the gear but no idea' camp when it comes to bikes - although I do try!

Please. Re read all my posts as I don't understand why toys are been thrown out of prams.

Cheers one and all.

It is all down to the individual, I drove it and I can say that the elevation alone scared me, the unweighting of the car, the additional planning for breaking because of this and then there is lift off. For me it is a big thing but I am no expert.

Everyone is allowed an opinion and it's all speculative anyway.

Enjoy the weekend lads, I am out with the in laws :-/

Why not lend it to Andy then? I think that everyone on this thread is now at least a little curious as to how an absolute tier 1 current unmodified bike would compare to what Andy has done to his... Alternatively - could the PH scribes arrange such a thing?

15 minutes? That's sitting at 50 odd everywhere, You'll be much quicker than that.

A 125 four stroke could do a 12 minute lap.* (Just over 60 mph average.)

  • Requires a zero traffic run, and earmuffs. And an ability to not get bored.

Wasn't there a ten minute lap on an Aprilia RS125 a while ago?

Don't know for certain, but speaking as an owner of an RS 125, it's certainly possible. If you were a total nutter you might get a 10 minute lap out of a learner legal one, though I wouldn't fancy trying it.

He wouldn't be any faster. With bikes its all about knowing your machine, jumping on a Panigale he may be faster after a while but it would take a lot of time.

Re DiscoC's suggestion - I'm out there often enough. Happy to bung it in back of transporter for the right rider to try it. In fact I know a couple of ex BSB riders so may come up with something myself - although like for like ie the same rider might be best.

W/e calls. Have a good one chaps.

I'll have to disagree with this one. Mike Rutter was sat on a new Norton Commando doing laps around the Isle of Mann's closed circuit making people on track day bikes look daft. wink

It was on the telly box some bikers travel show on BBC3 so it could have been staged but on the unlimited stretches of road he disappeared just as easily on that as he would any other bike.

This is the case, which is why he was on Road Legal tyres wink

Dunlop also sent me some proper sticky rubber to have a bash with. There's so much to tell you there, that I'll write a whole review late. But 7m10s, and they're road-legal
Sorry, i missed the part where he said dunlop road legal trackday tyres.
I was just going by the pic.

I doubt he'd be any quicker even if he was well versed with the Panigale. The R1 he is on seemed well sorted, only bike I would say may be a better bet is the 2011 on - Kwak or BMW S1000rr.

A Panigale is a lovely bit of kit dont get me wrong, just perhaps not the ideal bike for that run hence the reason you dont see them at the TT etc.

That's quite mental.

I thought his speed down Fuchsroerhe was pretty special but when the front wheel started giving him grief through Pflantzgarten/Eisgarten. Forgeddabouduit.

Possibly fewer - by any objective measure it is a bit scary, so there may be a few significant egos out there who might have fancied themselves for it who are now saying fk that.... ?
