Should have got the 2CTs - can rub Bibendum's face before the bobbles disappear. At the risk of starting the chicken strip debate, there's so many factors to consider, tyre make, size, pressure not to mention bike weight etc - see how much the tyres were distorting on the TT super slow-mo recently. My Superduke will run it's 180 Michelin to the edge with ease, the 190 Storm on the Hayabusa takes a bit more doing but a day with a passenger on the back will scrub them up nicely despite taking it easier 2-up. My rear tyre looked liked the super-moto tyre above moments before I spotted the nail it it

Yazza54 said: you b h Hahaha in all honesty its not really possible to go all the way on the roads. Not in the sarf where I live anyway. Get booked on a trackday, I managed knee down on the second time at brands, all your focus is on your riding and what you're doing. At the msv novice days they have a free body positioning demo and coaches on hand to watch you and give advice foc.

The quickest riders that I've ridden with never get there knee on the ground on roads. One has even taken off his knee sliders as he sees no point in them. The other doesn't have the patch to put them on in the first place. I doubt there are many on here who could keep them inside for very long if they rode quickly. So all the "look at me I get my knee down everywhere" brigade are either waving knees out hoping to hit the ground or just riding in circles and are 0.5 seconds from an accident. Personally I've got massive chicken strips on my road bike and I don't care.

I did over 3k on my last 2CT rear and still had a 10mm gap on both sides.

Yeah, but he looks well wickid'. When I took my Zexxer for an MOT the bloke said he gets people coming in with old track tyres bought off teams for him to fit to their road bikes. He said they never get over that far so all they need is tread in the middle. It takes a few miles for the bobbles to get cleaned up by the huggers!

I don't have sliders and I quite like my kneecaps (much like my penis).
Agreed. Knee down on road isn't necessary but is fun

Personally I've got massive chicken strips on my road bike and I don't care. Granted, there's a great deal of corners on my commute where knee down is impossible, through 40 limits, blind bends with replaced grooves of tarmac and a drain, and some that are so narrow that my head would be on the wrong side of the road if I leant the bike over too far. However, there are also some crackers with a good sight line through the corner that allow the bike to be leant over for some time and allow me to lean further and further and wind on the gas, perfect for knee down antics. I'm not trying to ride fast, I'm just enjoying riding. It's like wheelies or powersliding a car, it's not fast, but it is fun. I think the knee down thing is purely down to personal taste and riding style than anything else.

I think the knee down thing is purely down to personal taste and riding style than anything else. But this is my point. You can get your knee down at 20mph if you want. To get it down at the speeds that it "needs" to be down then you must be riding well into three figures on a fast bend. Seems a complete waste of time to me.

Chicken strip size depends on tyre profile as well. My old Avon storms I only got the edges on the track ( and one particularly amazing road in Spain). Got some Bridgestone something or others on the fazer I got prettying to the edge with a bit of country road blatting and a few roundabouts. Bike suspension doesn't work very well whilst leaning right over. I don't trust our roads to commit anything like I do on track.
