My Aprilia Mille does 38 mpg whether it is ridden gently or thrashed, my old LC 350 averaged 38 mpg as well but would improve to 60 mpg at a constant 95 mph on the autobahn.
You could get your LC to last 60 miles at 95 mph?

Pretty good really. Using more than 12-15 litres in sixty miles of A road on my Hayabusa would be an eye opening challenge...

I get 43mpg out of this without trying. The F800S I had before it did 65mpg.

Th Skoda 1.6TDI the wife runs does 54mpg since she got it, which proves the OPs point really.
What was the OP's point?

I toured 1600 miles in 10 days on my 350 YPVS LCII around the Rhine/Black Forest, it never missed a beat. Averaged over 50 mpg on 2 star for the trip and we didn't hang about either. I put over 10000 miles on it before it holed a piston when it ran out of fuel at an indicated 125 mph. A design flaw means the left carb runs out of fuel before the right, making it lean out and melt the piston crown if you are at full throttle. My mate averaged 60mpg on his GSX 550 on 4 star petrol.

I've got an older F650GS and that regularly knocks on the door of 70mpg.

A little mystified by this? Fair enough comparing a commuting bike to a commuting car though, interesting.

Around 130 mpg, just (last sat) returned from IOM TT setting off from blackpool to catch ferry at liverpool,7 days hooning about on the island (2 up) and then returned home via ferry from Heysham.

All on 8 quids of fuel.

Priceless !

50+ mpg from a GSXR 750 K4. Usually at least 140 miles from a tank when the fuel light comes on.

Thats on a 20 mile each way A / B road commute averaging 50mph for the whole journey

Loaded paniers and high speed motorway runs and I get 40-45 MPG out of my 800. Drop the paniers and weight and take it easy at less than 80MPH and it will jump up to nearly 50MPG. Very careful riding at less than 60MPH and anticipating lots and I get easily more than 50MPG.

I am neither short or light - so I think these numbers are great.

Get about 55mpg on my carbed SV650, got 120mpg on my old Yamaha YBR125!

Considering their weight and size, 120mpg really should be the figure for most bikes...

I'm getting about 40mpg in central London on the hornet, not really driving economically. Probably why they are such courier bikes.

About 60mpg out of the twenty year old 1340cc Harley on a decent run - don't hang about but don't cane it either. So, fast by car standards, slow by sports 'bike standards. The other half's Harley is about ten per cent better on a run, similar model but with gearing better suited to the roads we use. The Z1000 gets about 50ish at the same rate. When my mate goes places with us (at the same speeds etc.) on his 1200 Bandit streetfighter he's lucky to get 30 - 35... and a 600 Hornet I borrowed a little while back just about made it 'round the block on a full tank!

Bikes have very poor aerodynamics in comparison to cars, this has a big impact on their fuel use, especially at speed.

I would have thought the engines spinning up to twice or three times that of a car's has something to do with it.

For the op, most average bikes 600-1400cc will do 40-60mpg,

400-600's about 40-60mpg again.

50's will do 120mpg, as will most 125's

Some will do more, some will do less, the new Aprillia RSV does less than 30mpg, the BMW F650 thing will do 80mpg,
Thanks. What about bikes 200-400cc?

Why isn't there much difference between 400 to 1400cc bikes?
...and the larger engine will be revving much lower for a given MPH, my Busa is great on fuel considering the performanve, 50mpg at a steady 90ish MPH, one of the mags tested a Blade against a Er6f recently and as speeds rose, the Er6 was much more thirsty.

My car is claimed to achieve 57mpg but in fact its more thirsty than my old 2.0td as it needs working harder for any given accleration/speed.

Compared to a performance motor bikes are good on mpg, if yiu want to get good mog, look at some of the newer BMWs or the NC700 Honda, which has been designed for good real world mpg, which as WHICH mag found recently, most cars dont achieve apart from on a static dyno..

That's good.

My 14 does about 46-47mpg at 80-85mph, but with the extra drag of being naked. Mind you it's only doing 4,600rpm at 100mph which helps.
