I think they're more referring to the fact that it is too much bike for them, not that riding a motorcycle means instant death. I understand the statement smile I'd love one, but I'd kill myself on it.

Indeed. No doubt the average bike rider will be less manly, grow breasts, or suddenly have an interest in Honda Gold Wings, if they admitted that some hi-end sports bikes are simply too extreme for their skill levels. I have owned an early Fireblade. I know about these things. I am sufficiently rubbish at riding a bike to know that owning this new Ducati would probably shorten my life span.

Unlike LoonR1, who is clearly a Riding God and completely immortal smile

Absolutely agree with you and its a tragedy that a bland production behemoth like VW should get its dead fingers involved with another passion backed brand, this does not bode well for Ducati.
Ducati's are going to end up vastly overpriced, desigened to appeal to the majority and underperform at everything but mediocrity, just like the new LambAudis do.

Lambo now means the Audi parts bins, 4wd, boring styling, the cynical upgrade and extras lists,,,,
They've always been overpriced at a 50% premium to the equivalent and arguably superior Japanese 600 / litre bike.

As for the rest of your post, you really are clueless aren't you.

+1 So would I!! (Love to have one / get killed in a matter of days)

I added the word VASTLY for a reason,,, Go buy yourself a dictionary FFS, IF you can read you will maybe figure out what the funny word means and why it was used.
And no, I am not but you sir are a proper tool. Superior HOW?

I am a rider. Back in the day I was sticking two fingers up at mortality on a Yamaha LC350, then after a pause for a while got back into bikes. Last bike I owned was a 95' Fireblade in urban tiger paintjob.

I am not a very good driver and an even poorer bike rider. I have the attention span of a ADHD afflicted teenager and I am clumsy.

Far from being the "standard boring response from non-riders", it is based on honest reality..

So you are no doubt a riding god with the style and touch of Pierre Francisco Chili then are you? Well good for you then... rolleyes
A 1995 Blade would be far more likely to kill you than a modern sportsbike with traction control, electronically controlled engine thingummybobs and modern rubber at the front and rear.

I was 7 years away from passing my test when you bought your last bike and have ridden litre bikes ever since passing in 2002. I'm not dead, despite riding several R1s and currently an S1000RR on road and an R1 on track. In fact the one bike I have that scares me is a 250cc 33bhp MX bike, which is massivley underpowered compared to the (claimed) 193bhp on my road bike.

In reality modern bikes are far more civilised than even your 350LC would've been back in the mid 1980s and a complete doddle to ride.

I am an awesome rider though, women often fall at my feet in awe of me, so i guess I stole some of your awesomeness wink

I think you may find that the price diffrence was more to do with the exchange rate. Gone are the days of buying a SS600 for £6K

And so are the days of getting the mid range Ducati for £9000. The 848 is £11,000 list price, which is Japanense 1000cc price range. The 1199 Panigale £15,000 for the standard bike rising to £19,750 for the S version or £23,500 for the Tricolore S.

The exchange rate may have gone against the Japanese, but Ducati have upped their prices to keep the price differential.

The one thing Ducati makes is a good looking bike.
I had my 996 nicked twice in the UK, once they couldn't lift it over the wall as it was chained to a steel loop in the front yard. Later in the summer they brought more guys, a refridgerated van and tools. So I thought I would get out of the lets make it hard to steal my bike game and took the money.
But this might be time to get another one.

Oh and on the subject of Lamborghinis and everyone thinking the Mojo has been softening like the Hoff. Meh
Have you driven a Lambo? The new ones still scare the st outta me

Jeez. I thought I was grumpy at times.

50% extra for a bike that is at best marginally better is "vast" IMO.

As for the TT are you saying that not a single Jap bike finished the TT? If so you might want to review your facts. If we're comparing race spec bikes (which is a daft thing to do) have you seen how few Panigales are racing currently?

On the topic of Ducati's being overpriced - the current Monster range is very keenly priced in my opinion. I have the Monster 1100 Evo and it comes standard with ABS and DTC, cowl seat cover and fly screen for £9250 (less if you shop about). This is a bike I prefer to the Triumph Speed Triple which costs more.

I guess if HP and top speed dictate how you value a bike then there are cheaper alternatives but I like the torquey ride and sublime handling instead. My previous bike was a GSX-R600 L1 that while similarly priced and faster, wasn't as nice to ride on a daily basis for me and having ridden an FZ1, FZ8, CB1000R, STriple and the 1100 Evo the Duc came up best and most cost effective too!

Other's will disagree of course based upon personal prefs but the Duc isn't out of the ballpark value wise.

The naysayers are quite right......Ducati make overpriced tat, have no pedigree and are purchased by people who can't ride properley and would be too scared to ride a powerfull R1 or blade.
Also now that Audi has got hold of them all small italian children will be harmed in some way.
The end.

I can see where Toppstuff is coming from however can't agree with the "Less Manly Growing Breasts" bit - Mrs.Freight is less manly and has breasts (and doesn't look butch I can assure you!) and presently rides a ZX 6 Ninja - and yes I admit can ride 'Bikes Far Far better than I!

One thing Ducati gets right is the design and styling of their bikes. Everyone loves the look of them. And just like buying any sports car/bike, looks is more than half the battle won in justifying the purchase, no matter the cost.

I really love the 1199, best looking bike on sale today and is right up there in terms of power and hopefully reliability too, well done Ducati.
