Sadly, consistent with increasing numbers of reports: the Panigale just isn't cutting it.
yes Why have ducati released a bike with a map that gives such a ste torque curve. That is absolutely atrocious for such a (relatively) expensive bike.

It will make it *feel* like it has a massive top end rush, but that's just a symptom of it getting back on track again, rather than *real* power. Interesting to see who whether that's as a result of fuelling alone or whether the ignition curve is also crap.

With the Ducatis engine being oversquare has pushed power further up the rev range. I think im the only person who thinks its hideous. Surprised how strong the blade and ktm are in the midrange .

If I had the choice it would be blade or rsv4.

I agree, they are all superbly capable bikes.

Have a test ride and pick the one that suits you best, cant see what difference
there is between 160 and 170hp for riding on the road except for bragging rights in the pub

If its USA specced blade, it's down on power. We get full power Hondas in here Blighty.

Shame ther isnt an 1198 torque in their to compare for you, Ducati have lost the fantastic grunt that motor had in their chase for peak HP to match the fours.

The 1198 has the best motor, for the road, than any other bike ive ridden, the IL4s just dont interest me at all now,far too rev happy.

yes 100ftlbs torque king on the road, plus 189hp (crank) = win win. Brilliant motor for the road with so much tractability.

Only tried the '10 Blade and that was brilliant too. But with the Blade, no one aspect ever stands out- the whole package feels so dense and perfectly matched between every component. Must try out the '12 Blade sometime...

I had a good blast on this 2012 blade a month or so back on the roads up to St Marys Loch.

It was OK.

i had an 09 blade prior to mt RSV4 and whilst it didn't excell at any one thing, it was a solid 8.5-9 in every dept. The new one is the same but better, so a solid 9 across the board. So easy to ride but poke it and it goes. very tractable motor, no steps, powerbands etc, very like the crossplane crank R1 in that it's turbine like, just relentless go.
A couple of friends have them now and they are superb machines, and for the money, very hard to beeat i think.

Try one.
And for the record, i am a Ducati fan boy!! Got an 1198 in a 996 that weighs 168 kgs fully fueled and all fluids. Now that really goes!!!!

Only certain states, IIRC Honda dont claim any more power for the 2012 bike, 160RWHP is on the money for these.

Very interesting reading, surprised the Ducati rated so low at 3rd from bottom - perhaps it still has some way to go before its the pick of the crop. Good to see that the new Blade is the bike of the moment.

I agree, don't think I'll bother with IL4s again, I much prefer V-Twin power delivery!

The 1198 has relentless drive almost from tick over!

Bass, you know Frankenduc needs to make a UK appearance sometime soon! smash
You hit the nail on the head about the Blade... It has a turbine motor. Almost electric in feel it is so smooth and linear. For track use it must be brilliant.

But I like my power with a bit of 1198 rough biggrin

All those stats are irrelevant to the typical Honda rider that rides like a fanny
...and to all the Ducati riders that bang on about torque and have rushed out to buy a Panigale that makes it's power like a weak IL4 thou hehe Kind of confirms my suspicion that a good proportion of Duke riders buy the latest Duke because it's the latest Duke, rather than because of torque/v-twin power curve.

I'm not saying it's a worse bike than the 1198 as I like IL4 power deliveries. Just saying - that's all.

Reading these graphs and scores, along with VB's opinions on a day spent with an RC8R, I think it needs to go back on my test ride list. It really looks like the pinnacle of V-twin-ness these days.
