Cheap Ducati 748, what could possibly go wrong
Discussion
Im 8 years into my 916 BIP, home serviced, been to France twice Lemans once, TT a few times, use it for general hooning. Have had a lot of quite nice bikes (68 and counting whoops) that are not the same riding pleasure (RC30 and RC45 included).
I have only had the alternator wiring issue (two wire alternator) which was an easy hour fix at home, if you are worried about rocker wear the hard chrome plating flakes off if youre unlucky; but it will become obvious at oil change when you clean the tubular gauze oil strainer (this is a two minute job to whip out and check when looking at a bike for sale).
The clutches sound awful at tickover, but the engine should be very quiet mechanically when you pull the clutch in.
Ducatis are more fragile than a Blade (I've had 3 blades and two 916's as a direct comparison), but generally more involving. If youre mechanically sensitive rder theyre fine, and can take normal hard use; if you like doing wheelies and rolling burnouts, probably better avoiding!!
A 748 isnt that different unless you buy an abused one; enjoy!!

Got home without incident (70 miles) and is now residing in the dining room
Only hit a bit of rain and it is so confidence inspiring around the corners, it really was a joy. Going to start the service on it tonight to get it back on the road asap.

Brilliant news, been looking out for an update - 3 times I posted some sort of mobile phone issue!
That is an early one 1997?
Mate hats off to you I'd love my bike in the dining room, that's the bks!!
Yer its a 1997. Have already drained the oil, put my carbon fibre front mudguard on and checked the oil strainer, and thankfully there are no chrome flakes That is an early one 1997?

Got a service kit waiting for me at the post office so tomorrow I will finish the service and change the belts. Then next week i should have enough time to get the valve clearances done.

So not only are you lucky enough to keep the Ducati in the house but you can do the belts etc yourself!! I just about managed to change the brake pads on my mountain bike.Got a service kit waiting for me at the post office so tomorrow I will finish the service and change the belts. Sounds like you should never have doubted buying a 748, enjoy it.
