On a side note - I saw a first on a Ducati. Guy with an 848 had visibly sanded with a what looked like 150 grit sand paper, the chicken strips, front and rear up to the edge of the tyres. You could clearly see the thin sanding lines... You could also see the chicken strips had been massive! What a tool hehe
Are you serious?! What a nobber!

Thats the beauty of them for the second-hand buyer. A huge percentage i've looked at have a full termi system, some carbon tat, fsh but all on orginal tyres with huge chickens.

You know they've just been trundled to the shops and back.

Now if only I can get someone to insure me....

Comparison in this months super bike magazine.

Panigale win styling
S1000 wins on track (just)
Panigale wins on road
Panigale wins overall

Seems people love it or hate it as that's only explanation I can come up with for all different reviews.

I respect ducati hugely and they are responsible for some of the best looking bikes ever made

but screaming in-line fours are a big part of what I enjoy about bikes and, effective as they may be, v-twins just don't do it for me either.

I test rode the new 2012 Blade and ZX10R back to back a couple of weeks ago. Blade is better looking but ZX10 engine and electronics put it in another league. It's a two-wheeled extreme sport. Truly, an astonishing bike. Still going through withdrawal symptoms as I write this...

Ooer....

I'm waiting to pick up my Panigale S from Metropolis in Vaxhall, when they can give me a date, fully tricked up with everything (Termi's and everything carbon that I could find) - but now realise I have fogotten to order my sandpaper for the massive chicken strips that I will have for ever as I ride down to the shops!

Seriously - cant wait until it turns up - but am a bit concerned that the pipes might be too loud for track days? My 749R and 999R (all with Termi's) got through ok?

I found the riding position to be pretty comfortable and the brakes hilarious! I didn't notice the fuelling issue (at 4K if memory serves correct) - but that's probably because I'm a clutz (or was busy sandpapering my rear tyre at the time smile - but did find the stand to be a minor pain. But a lot better than my old 916 and 998! I found the tank to be a lot easier to move around (compared to my 999R - and the 749R to a lesser extent).

Any tips/observations greatfully appreciated.

Ducati is working on the track day noise issue: http://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-news--general-...

The article says it's not the exhaust, but rather the engine, and that it only affects static tests. A Panigale should be able to pass the drive-by test.

The salesman told me when I went for a test ride that the Termis weren't actually any louder than the standard pipes (which goes against what some people have said on here), but they did give a big boost to the mid-range. In terms of noise at TDs though it depends on where you go, I've heard of them failing at Cadwell and Donington, but you'd probably be alright at Silverstone and fine at Rockingham. Best to get it checked before booking a venue only to be turned away on the day.

Don't worry about ordering the sandpaper .. Ducati know their target riders and include it in the standard tool kit, it's right next to the AA breakdown card biggrin

That's rich from a 450 SEAC owner! smile Do you still have the Aramid Composit body shell? Or has it been replaced? I loved those cars - nearly brought a 420 SEAC many years ago - but then tried to buy a Speed 12 instead. Went down the Italian route in the end.

Sorry - this is a bike thread - I just bikes and cars - I cant stop myself!

Not that I'm a weirdo stalker or anything (since the hypnotherapy), but I read what you often post on the Lotus forums. Seems you like the same power delivery in your cars as you do on your bikes smile

There was one on a stall at Brands at the weekend.

People were round it like flies around dogst

I can’t actually see what all the fuss is about. It’s still not as pretty as the 916

Think you'll struggle on most tracks with the termi's as understand they are around 107-108db, as opposed to standard 105-106.

Austin Racing reckoned power with termi's was down overall against the standard cans, but gave more mid range.

I've heard that Ducati are currently in talks with MSV about the noise issue & await thier resolution as turning up to a track not to be allowed on isn't fun. Think you 'may' have a chance at the 105db tracks, but little else. From what I've heard, tilt the bike over slightly when being tested so that noise isn't reverberating off floor as much, and hold clutch in. This shaves 1-2db off.

Other than that, have fun. Love mine to bits (holding out on changing exhaust until track issue sorted, and seeing what likes of Austin or Akro bring out). I believe there is also rumour of a new map out shortly to try & resolve low down fuelling issue, although on open road it's not an issue.

And buy this months Superbike magazine as there's a head to head test against the BMW. Makes decent reading.

It will be interesting to hear the outcome of that one as I'm pretty sure msv have little say in it. Local councils tend to set the parameters on noise

The local councils will make an exception because they are Ducatis. It's a premium make.

'Tis as it should be, non?
Such common sense would indeed prove the beaurocrats in town halls the length and bredth of the country are truly wise and sage people.
Bravo if it happens!!

MSV carry out the noise tests not the council so theoretically MSV could bypass the static and rely on the ride by testing.

I imagine the council just set a db limit and don't stipulate that it must be a static test.

Suprised about the riding position as don't have an issue in any way with this, and most reports say its pretty good.

The brakes are very good, so can understand you comments on that, but not sure how you'd overcome this, without putting worse brakes on the bike, which doesn't seem quite right. Standard seat isn't the most sticky thing ever, however the race seat (and comfort for that matter) are far better, which no doubt helps.

Re the shock. Totally agree. It does stick into your inner thigh when stopped. Not the biggest issue though IMO.

Thought you'd mention 'fuelling', 'the stand' & the 'firmness of ride' if I were honest as these to me are the major thigns. The first isn't brilliant, with issues below 4k, although changing settings does help matters (assume Ducati will bring out something to sort, or go down route of powercommander). The second is a complete pain until you get used to it, and the last much depends on settings again, including the flat/progressive linkage.
Alright Mark.

I've had a couple of weeks to think about this and maybe I've been a bit rash. The reason for this was maybe it was the opposite to what I was expecting after riding quite a few big bore Ducati's in the past, the lack of bottom end grunt and mid range thrust coupled with the strange riding position (for me) just had me thinking what the hell is all the fuss about.

Jumping on mine straight away they both hit 150 at the same spot so again that had me thinking where's this near 200 bhp people are talking about. When I first rode Akys S1000RR that made me say to myself (fking hell) where the Duke made me say the same but for different reasons.

I'll get to see what its like on track as it's had all the bodywork changed ready for Croft where I'm sure Aky will be after my blood due to my first comments.

Of course I can't loose really, if a nigh on 30k bike can't get away from my old R1 with a good rider like Aky at the bars then I don't know whats what anymore.

I still think they're the best looking bike out there Mark.. Hope you have many happy miles on her.
