It is amazing what you can do with a spare 5 mins and a belt sander....
Instead I spent hours doing circles in my local carpark. Damn, what a waste.

I used to go through a lot of knee sliders. Tried leather that lasted well, but gripped when you put weight on the knee. The scorch marks looked cool though!

In the end a combination of not putting too much weight on the knee and finding the WIZ plastic sliders that I still use for trackdays today, cured the issue. That and swapping around and turning them upside down, to ensure all the slider got used and worn out.

I don't know of any harder wearing ones than WIZ plastic sliders.
Yeah I read a few times the leathers ones grip and feel strange at first. I've tried to adjust my position not to put as much weight on the knees, but with no avail yet. The Wiz ones felt smooth but lasted half as much as Dainese and Wolf ones, even after turning and swapping them around.

Leather ones also make no noise when they touch down, so first you know is when it's 'grabbing' your knee sometimes. Not a big fan. I found Dainese wore fast as the ones I tried were rounded rather than flat like the WIZ ones. Don't try Alpinestars as they are very soft - fine for the occassional road knee down but not track.

I've not tried Wolf. I have some sparking ones with titanium rods that are tear drop shaped (can't remember brand) and they are super thick to start with. I think they do non sparky ones too. They are not the hardest, but you have about an inch of slider! Only worry there is if you come off they might dislocate your knee!

ETA - just searched on E-bay and these super thick ones are Motrax - worth a try I reckon. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOTRAX-ROK-DROP-Knee-Sli...

I would say if you are dragging your knee hard enough to kill sliders this quickly leather ones are going to be 'interesting' biggrin Dainese used to supply a hard compound, might be worth giving the suppliers a call. Can you get away with Ti ones on track, would have thought they'd have got the hump with the sparks?

Dangerous using sparky or Ti ones on track.

I'll try a few of the ones mentioned and see how it goes.

Sparkly sliders aren't allowed on all the UK tracks AFAIK.

If the op can do that many tdo's and races, he can surely afford the sliders.

I want pics of the op riding his bike anyway as he is either the next Stoner or has A riding style similar to a baby giraffe riding a minmoto.

I'll post some pics of my serviceable sliders after 10 races, 4 practise days and a bit of road riding too.

Ceramic will never wear out. My old race boots were Daytonas and had plastic toesliders incorporating 2 ceramic bolt type things - available as replacements and they are still in excellent shape now.

If you get a really good lean on, most racers or fast trackday riders actually lift their knee up, to avoid the kerbs etc...

Get ceramic. Job done.

Yeah I know what you mean, I am also a riding god who wears out knee sliders far too quickly. I now glue three together to make a super thick slider because it is the only way I can be sure they will last long enough to get through a track day session wink
If your gluing three together no wonder there wearing out so quick they must be dragging on the tarmac with the slightest lean biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

I figured on that but there are no details on which track, could be the local fairground for all I know? People lean on sliders at different rates. I know some who can go half a season on a set whilst others bury them every apex. Have agree though, to kill a set of Wiz sliders that quickly I think an adjustment in style could be considered! Either that or look at sponsorship smile

I don't suppose you've got any worn down ones you wanted to chuck away but haven't yet? I would happily pay postage for them for a mate, as it's a bit of a running joke that he's never had his knee down and it would wind him up of I stuck a pair of worn ones on his leathers for a laugh hehe

'Ere lads relax. All I asked was if anyone knew any brands of harder wearing sliders, that's all, this isn't a willy waving post either. Some people skim the slider some people dig it in (like I seem do). We all ride slightly differently and there is no gospel riding style which we should all be following (within reason anyway).

Thanks to those who actually replied with a worthy comment.

StuB - As per your request.

Likin the style & nice blade. OT but what spec/model year & how much TLC does it need?

FYI, I'd suggest a hard nylon type (nylon 66 or similar) as it has a self lubricating property rather than other more brittle plastics which I'd have thought would grab more. My wizz ones are nylon, the bis ones aren't and are wearing much faster too.

I work in the plastics industry btw.

I consider that to be doing my bit for the community and is strictly personal. Nice to have another big fan around then Tony? We should compare notes sometime.

Ceramic nylon ones seem to come from the US, Sidi, Teknic and Joe Rocket been the players who sell them. I cannot see any shops in the UK which stock them from a quick search.

Bike is as follows:

2008 CBR1000RR
Ohlins R&T forks (with springs to match, superbike valving)
Ohlins TTX rear shock (with spring to match)
Brembo RCS 19 M/C
Brembo RCS clutch lever
Brembo low-drag levers
Brembo Z04 pads
HRC quick throttle
BMC race air-filter
Leo Vince Full Factory Corsa Ti system
Bazzaz Z-FI (Quickshifter+Traction Control+Self Mapper+Handlebar TC/Map switch)
Lightweight lithium battery (saves nearly 3kg)
520 chain conversion (-1f +2 rear)
Samco hoses
Carbon intake tubes
Carbon hugger
Carbon frame/swing arm covers
Armour Bodies race fairing
Lightech adjustable rearsets
Venhill braided lines
GB Racing engine covers
Glpro gear indicator
Renthal soft grips
Motovation fork,axle and frame sliders
Zero gravity screen
Pirelli SC2 tyres

Easy to maintain as the engine is standard. Oil changes every TD/race.

As I recall, they had quite a burnt leather smell to them too.

Not really loaded, taken a couple of years to get the bike to that spec. Plus most of that kit has come from the US (which is vastly cheaper than the UK)

I'm a Yorkshireman as well, so tight as (apparently!) and paying decent money for some soft plastic which rubs away easily is tad annoying! Hence wanting some ones that last longer.

I've just noticed Wiz do the Trakpux which are thicker than normal ones. Will give those a bash.
