TVR's and bikes
Discussion
The Tamora has been variously quoted at 0-60 in 4.1, 4.4, 4.5, and 0-100 in 9 or 9.2 secs. In-gear times are phenomenal, and it's overall speed is enough to keep pace with most big bikes, except for the 0-30 mark, where bikes have an obvious advantage. Power to weight is the key, and I would guess big bikes come in at around 350-450 bhp per tonne, the Tamora is 338bhp per tonne.
Errrrrr by my sums an R1 for example
152Bhp
174Kg
873.6 Bhp/tonne
Alright the weights are dry and without a rider but knowing TVR I'd say the Tamora's stats are too.
Even so if we say 15Kg for fluids and an average rider weight of 90Kg that still works out 544.8 Bhp/tonne and those figures put them up with the real exotica. Oh yes I'd also add that unlike TVR Yamaha's power figures are normally pretty accurate (and often conservative) and measured at the back wheel

I have a fireblade at the moment and also have an s3. I've also driven a some faster cars including a 450 chimaera and a tuned 300zx and while I haven't got a massive breadth of experience of cars or bike I would suggest that whatever the figures work out to be I have never found a car no matter how fast to be even vaguely as exilarating as even a 600cc zx6r let alone a fireblade or an r1. I would love to have a griff or something like that as well as my fireblade but never in a million years would I have on instead of it.
I'd love to take a tvr for a blast and if its up to 60 mph in anything like the 4 second mark, I am genuinely impressed. Dont get me wrong,... I gave my bike up and its cars or walk for me now, but I've never got the buzz out of a car that I did on my bike. There is nothing like stuffing it up a 911 (or any / most? cars) on two grands worth of bike.
Elanturbo, what Apache is saying is right, I had a 911 and had driven lots of other quick cars(including an Elanturbo) before I got my Griffith. Even when I sold it, I still couldn't believe how quick it was. Truly unbelievable. I love my 348 but still get the occasional twinge when I see/hear a Griffith.
PS. I used to regularly play with the Box hill boys on their bikes. The pinnacle being blasting along at about 120 still accelerating when 2 R1's wheelied past me.

I have a Kawasaki ZX12 and a 500 Griffith. The Griffith is reasonably quick (but that is all) compared to a big bike. I also know which I would rather do 150mph with, and it certainly would not be the TVR. Anybody who imagines any TVR is a match for a big bike needs to get out on a bike !
Mhibbins, they were both grinning and giving me thumbs up a bit further down the road so I don't think I was 'getting in the way'
ps. for the record, on anything other than the straights I was nailing them.
Mel, not sure, was it you?????

quote:I bet that's fun. I can't believe how fast those big bikes are. I caught up with a blackbird stuck behind a car doing about 80 in the outside lane of my own private test track. I saw him drop down into the 4th so did the same and nailed it at the same time as he did. This was my first trip on the blade for a few months (new baby daughter) and the acceleration *really* caught me out, it felt like I'd pulled my arm out of joint. Anyway, the blackbird just smoothly pulled away from me until we had to brake again at about 150 a few seconds later... just amazing. Maybe I need a turbo

mhibbins,
You don't need a turbo - just a ZX12 ! It should do to a Blackbird what the BB did to your blade, but it goes round corners like a sports bike and has no daft linked braking system. They can also be bought damn cheaply - and with Race exhaust and Power Commander - 185bhp at the back wheel. Grrrrrreat !

Second this, whilst top bikes would even make some of the lesser F1 cars look slow on a straight drag even they have their limits, and that’s twisty A roads.
It can be fun, they'll always out drag ya but you sometimes have to slow considerably to stop hitting the back of them on the twisty bits
If when following you they've had to dropped back for the corners I normally always get a thumb or hand when they catch up on the next straight bit. I suppose it's a bit like Tivs and Elise's on track days.
Mines just a lowly V8S, I would imagine that the Tamora/Tuscan are better play toys for the bikes
Slightly off thread but why do most bikers sit by the offside rear wheel of the Tiv? is it just admiring the car checking out the interior , or are they just listening to the wonderful exhaust note

The noise of TVR's is good but if you really want to appreciate "quality" loud exhaust get yourelf down to Brands Hatch for the Superbikes and hear the V-twins doing their dambuster/battle of Britain sound track
(it ain't loud if you don't need earplugs!)
I agree with RUF 3. When I see a bike on my offside rear, I assume he is waiting for a few clear metres of road ahead to pass me and f**k off on. Granted theres lots of old duffers with enough cash to buy a bike and you could burn most of them off in your gran's metro,... but if you come up against anyone who can really ride, you had better stay over to the left and let them go. My problem with bikes is that lots of people die on/off them.
