Somewhere at home, I think. Not had one on any of bikes for the last 5 years and never had a problem, even during a stop. It's all on the database now.

Had mine stolen twice, so whilst it's on my current bike, the replacement will go in my wallet.

Swinging arm, bolted to the rear hugger.
Now soaked and practically unreadable.

In my bedroom. I had been fretting about not having it fitted for the last 5 months but as it seems to be the common thing I won't worry. I might shove it under my seat though or roll it up and stick it up my arse (the inbetweeners movie reference).

Stuck under the seat with a piece of clear vinyl - have done so for the last 25 years with no problem.

Depends on the bike. Pan - on the front right calliper bolts (no room on the left due to the different forks) 14 - Under seat since I had one (expired!) disc nicked. Stroppy - on the primary case just lined up nicely to soak up the engine breather so it's unreadable with oil in days

Given that my disc was cut off the bike once, I kept it in my wallet. I even spoke to a biker bib about it and he said it wasn't a problem.

on the swinging arm. I've lost two and am not the sort of person that can BS their way out of a situation, so I'd get done for not displaying it...

Can't see many thieves bothering for the sake of a tax disc that wouldn't save them ANPR. How thick is the metal? On mine they just snapped it off... I'll measure it tomorrow if you like. It is quite thick, you would have to bend it back and forth a while before it broke. Good point though, never thought of that method. Never considered theft before this thread either as my bike is rarely parked in places where that could happen. Yes please. Metric measurements. The main bracket is 1.0mm stainless steel. Not as thick as I originally thought, you would still need to flex it a fair bit to break it. It's an Oxford Tax Safe if you are still interested.

After having three tax discs stolen in a year I bought one of these - use them on all my bikes now and never had one stolen since:- http://www.secur-i-disc.co.uk/motorcycle.html(I reckon I post this same post at least once every 6 months!)

"failure to display" is one of those rules that needs to be abolished, it has no Point at all. Mot and insurance have always been more important yet never any requirement to even carry them with you. There is (was) a petition to get rid of this anachronism. Btw mine is behind the fairing on the top yoke.

I don't understand why tax discs are still being stolen when everything is electronic now, anyone care to enlighten me?

wildone63 said: Why would anyone steal a tax disc from a bike? Its not like someone could steal it then put it on their own bike and fool any copper who takes a look at it, it only takes seconds to verify if any vehicle is genuinley taxed or is displaying a stolen/forged disc. You and I (and everyone on PH) know that but we're not dealing with Ocean's Eleven levels of intelligence here.

Mines in one of those tubes bolted to the rear subframe where the pegs used to be.
