Just put these on my R1 this weekend. Amazing difference to the Bridgestones came off; it's like they're sucking you onto the road...

BTW the Michelin PR3's lasted me EXACTLY 12 months of riding ... doing a total of 12,816 miles.

They would have easily done 13,000 miles as they had 1.5mm remaining front and rear... but unfortunately the rear picked up two punctures in the space of two weeks... it seems when the rear gets thin it starts to pick stuff up off the road damaging the tyre so after the 2nd puncture I called it a day for safety reasons. One repair is fine - not two in my book and at the end of the day 12k miles from these tyres on a Superbike means I've certainly got my monies worth!

PR3's will no doubt be going back on the bike shortly - but for now I'm going to enjoy the PP's ... either way I will be staying with the 190/55 rear tyre.

Yep or the PR2s
Prefer the PR3's over the PR2's mate... they last a bit longer and have better wet grip.

I will be honest - I have not tried these PR3's yet. I wish I had seen this thread before I just purchased my 2nd set of Dunlop Roadsmarts on my Bandit! (Admittedly these are RoadSmarts 2 this time around, so I will see if these get similar mileage).

The last set lasted me just over 10,000 miles, and I was happy with this, but 17000 miles would have been better! I went for the Dunlops again because of their wet weather grip, but from reviews I have seen they say that the PR3's are almost as good in the wet as the Dunlops. There was a £50 difference between the Roadsmarts 2 (£220) vs the PR3's (£270)- and I went for the cheap option.

I will try these PR3's next time around, and stop being so tight, and see if I can get more than 10,000 miles!

I run the Power Pures on my Triumph 675R. They give so much more confidence on UK roads, than the original Supercorsa's that came on the bike (i.e. wet and cold). To be fair though an old BT020 tyre would have given more confidence!

I cannot comment on mileage, as the 675R does not do many miles. However I love the performance.

Would be interested to know how you find the Dunlop Roadsmart 2's ... but according to my best mate who has ridden on the original Dunlop Roadsmarts and swapped to PR3's he says the PR3's are leagues ahead in wet weather grip.

I'm loving the Power pures on the R1 ... dont seem to have any issues with the cold / wet either ... the tyres feel warm to the touch after parking up at work so they are retaining heat well so far!

For the road, I liked the Power Pures. I know Loon didn't like them, but it looks like he used them on the track?
He used them on road and track...

Fine on track as they get plenty of heat and were used in the cooler months at the start of the year.

Felt crap on the road no front end feel at all
Let me know when the others are available... hehe

On the R1 they feel fine mate.

Well I'm definitely in agreement with my mate who reckons the PR3 don't last as long as the PR2. Here's mine after 3000 miles

Got a BT023 fitted to get me home, not tried it in the wet yet though.
3000 miles?!!!

WTF are you doing to it!!!!

36/ 42 is all you need on the road with road tyres. Anything else is pub BS tbh.

Stick to recommended manufacturer pressures for the road.

As per the OP, mine past 12k miles this week... managed to get a nail in the back one but they still have plenty of thread.

The (st) dunlops that were on them originally lasted about 5k!

The nail will be pulled out and the hole plugged. The Pilot Road really is on another level altogether imho.
Just keep in mind as they get low the rear picks up punctures... it's why I had to bin mine as it wasn't cost effective to repair given I only had around 1k miles left on it.

I will be swapping out to ST rubber in a few weeks so we'll see how they fair on the new R1... smile

It'll be a high miler in no time, you'll have to do another high side to recover the value biggrin
Mileage has never bothered me mate... It's a generic jap bike - gets replaced when its either knackered or I've broken it... rofl

You've seen the condition of my bikes ... The rest is just a number on the speedo wink

I think I will be going for a set of these once the Pilot Power 3s die.... My mileage has increased alot (which is a good thing as I'm making myself an allseasons biker again)

Has anyone had both and can report?

p.s. is the wet grip THAT good? I do remember seeing in Bike magazine, tester Bruce Dunn scraping his knee on a soaking track....
Yep I've had both... smile

Pilot Power 3's and Pilot Road 3's

I did 12,000 miles on the PR3's and so far 5500 miles on the PP3's...

Both have more grip than you will ever need in any ROAD riding conditions, both warm up fast and both are superb in the wet.

However I'm not a fan of the front PR3 on a sportsbike... as when pushed on a bit the tyre moves around a lot under breaking / hard cornering but whilst not a problem doesn't give you much confidence. The PR3's also need a bit more work to turn compared to the PP3's... for me the PP3's are a good balance between a sporty riding and mileage.

It will come down to how you ride and your budget for tyres. I'm quite happy to buy two sets of tyres a year given my annual mileage of 12,000 miles but people would prefer a tyre that last's longer spending less money.

Got to admit I'm tempted to try these next:
http://www.metzeler.com/site/com/products/tyres-ca...

A mate of mine reckons they are the best ST rubber he has ever used and the front profile actually looks like it will be similar turning to a PP3.

However I love the PP3's ... they give me confidence in all conditions.
