Are the PR4's superseding the PR3's? I wasn't aware PR4's exist, I was going to try PR3's on my FZ1 but if the PR4's are a more current product...

Mind you, PR3's might be a bit cheaper?
Yes, yes and most probably.

Mind you, do you want to save another tenner on tyres? If the jump from PR2-PR3 was any indication for me, the savings are cancelled out by the newer tyre lasting longer.

Put PR4s onto my K1300S yesterday. Only 40 or so miles so far, but much nicer than the stock tyres.

I'm really in a quandry over these PR4s. There's a lot of sipes and I'm not too keen on the idea of the bike moving around if I'm cranked over on a fast bend or being a tt on a roundabout.

Anyone fitted these to a sports bike? Will these be too hard for my Agusta F4? Should I go for the Pilot Sport 3s or even the Pilot Sport 2 CTs?

confused
had these on my old ZZR1400 and were brilliant, as good as my friend's PP3's in the dry on his K1300S and light years ahead of the PP3's in the wet.

On Oponeo for my bike ..... (I'll just quote the rear 190/55/17 (W))

Pilot Power 2CT £89
Pilot Power 3 £100
Pilot Road 4 £105 <======
Pilot Road 4 GT £107 <--- fat bike variant

Not listing the PR3

Ive been using PR4 since they came out. Used in all types of weather, initially I liked them but as time has gone on Ive fallen out of love with them. Firstly Ive had several unexpected front end washouts which fortunately have only resulted in brown trousers. They move about....alot. If thats your thing, go for them but tbh I dont find it confidence inspiring. Each time Ive gone back and checked road and tyre for diesel or oil and never seen any.

Dont get me wrong, they are good I just prefer supersport tyres.

Depends what type of riding you want to do with your bike.

Being "cranked over" in a fast bend isn't the same as "applying a lot of power whilst cranked over" in a fast bend. The tyres may move a little bit, but in terms of road riding, I don't think you're giving up much. What you may give up for in outright dry grip, you'll gain in wet weather performance.

I got over 6k miles on them now, and I can't say I find them worse than the PR2/3, both of which were lightyears ahead of the stock tyre (Dunlop iirc) on the VFR...
Wet grip is a lot better than anything else I've ridden on.

PR3's were new rubber on the PR2's carcass. PR4's are totally redesigned. Been to Barcelona and back and round Donny a few times... only slightly scrubbed round the edges - still like new!

Fair enough. I'm hoping they will do about 8000 miles (I've had that so far from Avon storms on my SV650, and they are still going)

something else to save up for!

I get about 6k from PR3s, Storm Ultra 2s lasted about 4k ridden the same.

Plus I hated the Storm Ultras in the cold or wet, nasty twitchy slippy things. A real shame as the previous Storm ST was a bloody brilliant tyre.

I managed 20,000 miles out of my back PR3, and after 23,000 my front PR3 is worn out.

Do you guys reckon it will be OK to mix a PR4 on the front with my near new PR3 on the rear?

It's only a Yamaha FZ6 S2 with 95hp.

Tyre wear is down to how the bike is used. Too much use of brakes or acceleration in teh wrong place (which won't get you there any faster) will wear tyres out. Smooth fast riding will see longer tyre life. Basically the better the rider, the longer the tyre life in general.

I've ran PR3s for a couple of years. Rear wore out, put a PR4 on te rear and have ran it for the past 8months with PR3 front PR4 rear.

Absolutley fine, seat of pants, the 4 is gripper and dosnt really need to warm up at all.

Just put a PR4 on the front so now both ends, and I will get confidently say they are better than the PR3. Totally different compound tyre, tread is like silly putty.
Great in the wet and dry. Certainly havn't "moved around" on me yet and I'm not gentle.

PR3/4s back to back with a more conventional and equivalent tyre such as a T30 will feel more squidgy when pushing hard simply due to the tread pattern but I wouldn't call it moving around.

No ZesPak, Pirelli Corsas or Metzler racetecs. I did have a set of Dunlops from new, but didn't like those too much.

Silver, I had to ETA...

Just chucked a set of PR3s on my VFR750 - suffice to say that the first 2 miles they feel a million times better than the diabolical rock hard Dunlops that were on it and proudly presented by the previous owner as 'Brand New'. Looking forward to scrubbing them in.

Just ordered a pair of PR4s for £177 delivered. Pretty good deal via Oponeo - thanks for the heads up, I'd never heard of them.
