As much as anything else, doing these probably gets him out and about, keeps him sane and is his best chance of being found alive.

If pretending like I gave a flying fk had a chance of me seeing the UK again I'd be doing it in a Rangers or celtic top shouting down with this kinda thing.

This isn't rocket science. It's called survival. You think he'd last long if he shouted "bomb these s" in every video.
Survival isn't going back to where you were held captive, fking madman.

True but he probably thought he be ok. Doesn't make what's happening to him right. If it wasn't for people like him many atrocities would go unreported

Of course, if ( & that's a very big one) he does return to the UK, one of his reasons for having gone back out to Syria a 2nd time could be journalistic ambition/money driven.
Let's face it, bike journos aren't exactly paid a fortune but think what a story his would be IF he gets back. Book publishers could be queuing up to pay him enough to be comfortable for years..

Huge gamble mind & I certainly would want a cast iron exit strategy..

The only two reasons why you would go back are if you thought you could make a difference (this bit him on the ass) or if you have joined them.

Jury is out for me, the former then obviously I hope he returns safely and unharmed, the latter, well he can fk right off.

A man is being held captive. We as a race should be free to go anywhere we choose.
That's my look on it. You can argue the merits of going and against but the bottom line is we should all be hoping he comes out this alive. For his sake and his family and friends. Unless of course he owns a BMW

However it turns out it's one hell of a story. You couldn't make it up for a Hollywood film could you.

The Sonic Arai he had and leathers still looks cool all these years later. I tried to do same, kept falling off though ... and I was, er more portly ... still am.

At least they could let him do some video of a Yamaha DT125 in the desert or such for his old fans, heartless bds.

John is a journalist just like Kate Adie or Martin Bell were, it's what he does and why he went back. Poor bd is doing whatever he needs to stay alive. If he doesn't do a good job on camera or doesn't seem convincing enough then it won't be a bad review or not getting his contract renewed, He'll star in one last film and it will be his last, just like all the other poor bds that ISIS have butchered.

He made an opportunity work, no other hostage I can recall has managed to create a role for themselves out of nothing and he has saved his neck for the time being.

He has a slim chance of making it out as Daesh are loosing ground and control, it is a long shot, but at least he has a chance, I wish him all the best

I'm just looking at it differently but of course I would want him back safe.

We are free to go where we want but for longer than you could imagine, it has not been safe to do so for whatever reason and that's why I try to look from another angle, purely because for me it was utter madness.

Having done a couple of years as a poorly paid magazine journalist I can see why he might have been motivated to go and try and get stories that the journos from big companies might not be able to get.

As I understand he was captured and released before this round of captivity so it is possible he thought he might have some contacts or was persuaded he'd get access if he came back. Either way, a big call that hasn't worked out.

I hope he can keep his sanity and get out eventually.

You wouldn't catch me making propaganda videos for ISIS if I was in his shoes.

Glad to see John is still alive and hanging in there although he's lost a lot of weight and appears to be unsteady on his feet by the looks of it. Still praying for him as I encourage everyone else to. So far he's playing a blinder and God willing he can make it through this till he can be rescued. The filthy Daesh are losing ground day by day. He has to make it home.

Why do you come up as the original poster of this thread when you look back in your history?
