That's remarkable. Curious that they're releasing that information.
Fingers crossed.
Yup, I think it's more likely the Security Minister went and opened his mouth when he should of kept it shut. Fingers crossed Sonic is still alive but he will be harder to find and retrieve, now that others might also be aware of his status.Fingers crossed.

This is kind of what I thought. Whilst ISIS must have known all along what they have as an “asset”, of attention is drawn to that situation they may choose to try and seek capital from an abhorrent act. Truly hope not.
The Minister's background indicates he would hopefully not have said anything to jeopardise Cantlie's position.

They’ll choose to release more info as things progress & when a good news day is needed.
The last 10 years of main stream news has been borderline propaganda to avoid startling the masses.
Hopefully they’ll be something left of John - physically & spiritually.

Optomistic cynic in me (if there is such a thing) would suggest he might already be back in Western hands and is in debrief.

This is my thinking too, and yet, having been immersed so deeply in the organisation, and been a front man for them, i'm thinking it would be a very slow process to being sure he has not been radicalised, as well as being able to be sure of any info he may be providing that is helping in their fight. I hope we are right, ie that he is physically safe.

Latest story from today's Guardian.....
If he gets out of this one he'll have some tales to tell.
"Kurdish forces on the Baghouz frontline estimate the area is defended by about 400 hardcore Isis members, who do not intend to surrender. The SDF said it had captured 41 positions held by Isis.
Isis leaders are believed to be holding western hostages who were captured by the organisation over the past five years and whom they intend to use as bargaining chips. British journalist John Cantlie is believed to be among them and Baghouz residents who have fled the town suggested caves on the outskirts were being used to hide him and other captives.
Mortars fired by western special forces rained down on the holdouts through much of Sunday. Fighter jets soared above, leaving circular white streams that marked their orbits. The planes occasionally droped powerful bombs that created huge plumes of smoke. Surveillance drones moved slowly beneath the jets. Aram Kochar, a Kurdish military official said Isis fighters were wary of the drones and were rarely seen on the streets, apart from at dusk or under cloud cover.
“They’re very committed and they don’t plan on leaving,” the official said from the rooftop of a forward base, about 700 metres from the nearest Isis position. “We took two houses yesterday and they took them back from us at night.”"

Hate to be negative and probably stating the obvious but even if he gets back safe he's unlikely to be a shadow of the person he once was. He's been subject to brainwashing and Stockholm syndrome to what is probably an irreversible level. Got to wonder how damaged he's become by all this.
I was watching the TV news earlier about how the last area which ISIS hold (Baghuz or something) is under barrage with the aim of finishing them off, and I have to say I did think to myself, there won't be many people get out of that area alive. Whilst we don't really know how the ISIS mind works, with what they have left now surely they'd have played any "trump cards" they still have by now?
I hope I'm wrong.
I hope I'm wrong.

From the tone of that article, it sounds like he's gone native with Daesh for now - whether that's a survival tactic or a real conversion, who knows. Be interesting what surfaces in the next couple of weeks.
According to his sister he was 2/3 there already https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/is...

This thread popped into my head last night for some bizarre reason.
Anyone heard anything?
Latest mention I could find was here, but you have to subscribe to read it all (which I haven’t). -
