I have every sympathy for John however I don't think our Government (or any Government) should negotiate with this scum over this issue or any other. We should speak to them only in a language they understand. By wiping them off the face of the earth.

If we broker a deal over John, their tactics have worked and they take more hostages.

I don't know John but it appears that he's back on the bike. Unfortunately he's riding through Mosul giving a backie to one of these Islamic State butchers (from 7:09):

Quite amazing viewing that...They really are using this guy to the best of his/their ability.

I hope he does make it on in one piece, certainly would have some story to tell too.

Interesting first post.
Welcome to PH.

Is that not an old clip? of what he was doing before he was captured?
I really do hope that he gets out of this mess alive

Reported in the press to be new and current i.e. December he refers to was last month.

Given that ISIS didn't take Mosul until July 2014 and that is where he is reporting from I don't see the relevance of that.

Its reported to be a new and current video in the mainstream press.

The video is current as reported. I also don't believe John travelled to Iraq before he was kidnapped by these animals in September 2012. He also mentions that he's in Mosul and that it's December, and goes on to describe how the Islamic State blitzed the city last June.

Praying he keeps strong and can somehow escape or be rescued.

I watched the latest video, very strange. When he was on the motorbike I bet the thought crossed his mind to shake off the raghead pillion behind him and nail it through the traffic to try and get away. I suspect he was probably surrounded by a mob of them though also on motorbikes.

He shold have hoiked a 4th gear minger and dropped man behaving jihadly off the back.

Of course, he says what he's told, but anyone else wondering if what we do read in the papers about the state of play in places like Mosul, is ACTUALLY what it is really like.

Humans are very good at adapting to circumstance, hey maybe that's what Sonic has done.....

If I was in his position, I'd do a documentary saying whatever the fk they wanted quite frankly.

Also, LOL at "hoiked a 4th gear minger and dropped man behaving jihadly off the back".

I'm would hope there would be more videos in another series from John Cantlie. Not because I want to listen to more propaganda you understand......

Aye, and then done some feet up donuts outside the local chippie before riding off.

Sadly, although I suspect he probably thought plenty of times about nicking off on the motorbike, he has a long way to go to get to any sort of safe (and sane) territory. It's just not feasible. These rats are keeping him locked up, but I hope he gets out of there in one piece.

As much as I’d like for the chap to be safe and well, he has no chance in hell, especially from a radical Sunni Islamist militant group. The rules of war don't apply to these people.

They simply aren’t going to let a hostage go back to the west, informing “their” enemy of possible location, base size, numbers, infrastructure, equipment, health, intelligence, weapons arsenal and future plans. They have a track record of being ruthless.

As horrible as it sounds, should his life be taken from him, I hope it’s in a “civilised” manner and quick, rather than the barbaric monstrosities other victims have endured.

The only thing that sort of gives me hope, is that he shows no impending fear of execution. However, people appearing in propaganda films never do.

Old post I know, but when he says "there is very little crime that I can see", he is probably telling the truth, who'd want to commit crime when the punishment is typical Islamic nutter fare - hands cut off, bum rape, crucifixion, decapitation or all of the above?

They have apparently released numerous hostages last year. At the bottom of this article.

How come there's nothing on the news about this guy currently ?
