2K Touring Bike which one ?
Discussion
I'd never go full on touring because I'd want a bit of fun when I got to where I was going... so my vote goes to a K1200.

That said an RT is a lot of bike for 2k.

If your travelling solo and not that elderly or infirm(?), almost anything sporty-ish in your budget will eat up the European motorway network and be much, much, much more fun off the motorway....as worthy as the old BMWs are, the thought of riding one thru the Alps over something like a ZX9 / 6 wouldnt get my juices flowing that much...and I did it once on a Kawasaki GT550, another worthy bike but travel light, both on the luggage and bike front would be my advice.
So, my suggestion would be a ZX9 if your 2 up, a ZX6 or even better a Fazer 600 with your travelling solo..I did the Alps last year on a 600 SRAD and it was a joy.

Yeah I've got a pan and as many have said it is really comfortable on mways etc. Also very good 2 up which you don't mention as being part of the deal. But I have found that comfort on bikes is very individual and it could be that a pan doesn't suit you. The sports touring position can be more comfortable for some and I love my Ducati st3s in that regard. Pan is also a huge weight to push around. Where it wins out over the beemers is the lovely smooth but grunty engine - when you want to pootle its just much more pleasurable than the lumpy flat twins.
There's some gems lying around for mere pence. Check out this Pan.

Must mean my 51 Plate Pan with 42k on is worth £2.5k? Thinking of changing it next year for a more fun winter bike.http://autotrader.mobi/used-cars/advert/2012384858...

A K1200RS would be hard to beat. Comfortable, and reasonably quick. It's not a sports bike but it'll be easier to handle and more fun on the mountain passes than the more touring focussed RT.
