Is that a 'black bomber'?
No, it's a CB500 Four, which rolled off the production line on 6th August 1974. The 500 Four was the first Japanese middleweight 4-cylinder bike - the little brother to the CB750. After a few years, it was developed into the CB550.

The sales success of the CB500/550 was such that the other manufacturers were forced to respond. First came the Suzuki GS550 in 1977, then the Kawasaki Z500 in 1979 and finally the Yamaha XJ550 in 1981. All the current Japanese in-line 4-cylinder middleweight bikes can trace their ancestry back to these machines.
My Dad had a CB 500 Four, I have a picture of me and my sister siting on it around the 1974 era.

I had my first one from 1979-81 - did 34,000 miles in 2 years. It was the only bike I ever really regretted selling. Sure, the ones that followed were faster, handled better & stopped better, but none had the character of the 500 Four. I bought this one in 2003 as a basket case, and then spent a year and £fartoomuch restoring it.

I bought a Micron one that lasted 2 weeks before having to come off to be sold as it would be pissed after each ride no matter how anal I was with the adjustment (and believe me, I am anal).

The general fit of the Akrapovic is so much better anyway.

I'm having a similar battle with the Ducati 50mm Termignonis, but that will be won.

I'd love to see some more pic's of that, if you have any?!

You can always bung them in the picture a day thread, if you don't want to go off topic!
