Well maybe they soon will . . . !

Our little corner of the world had a modest bike show last weekend and Honda brought their concept electric bike which I think looked stunning. I hadn't heard anything about it until then and still have no idea of specs, etc., but the Honda dealer was talking about a 2013 release date for it.

Yep! That's what the electric bike of the future needs to look like!

The biggest obstacle will be the established availability of frankly ludicrous (in a good way!) two wheeled transport at 1.0 Ford Ka money.

The success of this bike will be to aim it squarely at the rider who will want to use it for a £1 a day commuting tool, rather than a replacement for their "thou" superbike.

As beautiful as that concept would be to behold each morning as the garage opened, MY electric solution would ideally come to market aimed more towards daily commuter use, comfort, and some degree weather protection.

If the maths is correct, I'd rather have my old (carb'd) 125 which did 100+mpg on average even when thrashed constantly...

I worked out it was about 6-7p a mile to run fuel wise I think... Know what I would rather commute on.

I don't see this as the future... electric vehicles are merely a fad. Something else will end up being the ultimate solution I believe (and it'll be the fuel companies that dream it up!)
So you'd rather commute on something more expensive that isn't any more powerful and not exactly all that much fun?? Why exactly?
Realistically, cos you can get a reliable 125 for 500 quid that will cost a pittance to run, and be worth 500 quid when you've finished with it too. Maybe in 20 yrs, if the battery lasts, and you can get one for a grand or so, it may be worth it.

I'm not against the idea, but realistically, these may well be the future in 50 yrs time, but not yet IMO. Too pricey, too much unknown.
