I hear this a lot on biker banter, but actually its not true. I don't believe your near £1000 helmet will protect you any better than the nolan I've been wearing for the last twenty years. Even dafter if you ride a cheap bike with an expensive helmet, as you could have a better handling bike so you wouldn't need to test your head against the pavement so much.
I don't care which way the latest test stabs the helmet and how the manufacturers have designed strengthening at that point to fool everyone that their helmat is an evolution in design, when actually its an evolution in money extraction.
Buy the pretty graphics if you like the graphics, call it a circular oil painting, but trying to convince me you are safer wearing it will require a demonstration ......... or two.
Possibly I may need more coffee today.
what has bike handling got to do with some one not seeing you or being in an unavoidable accident? I don't care which way the latest test stabs the helmet and how the manufacturers have designed strengthening at that point to fool everyone that their helmat is an evolution in design, when actually its an evolution in money extraction.

He's got to be right. I don't care which way the latest test stabs the helmet and how the manufacturers have designed strengthening at that point to fool everyone that their helmat is an evolution in design, when actually its an evolution in money extraction.

He needs more coffee - beans?
Just have a look & see what (none helmet sponsored) racers wear. See any of them wearing 5 year old lids? See any of them crash (regularly)? See them wearing something that they trust & have seen work & save them/their buddies heads?
Love some people's logic. I love I using a corporate phrase at times like this. Celebrate diversity.
Julian, dear chap, good luck with your lid, just please don't take the piss out of folk who don't want to end up a vegetable when some dope causes a SMIDSY. Yes, marketing exists & has little efficacy on product performance, but I believe with a lot of bike stuff Racing improves the breed. True for bikes, clothing, lids, boots, tyres, etc.. (IMHO).

Go to a classic/vintage/post classic meeting and you'll see plenty of people in knackered old gear Some people even still race in open faced lids and haven't died

And how many crash at 100+ in these old lids? I don't think the comparison holds water, or oil. Some people even still race in open faced lids and haven't died
A lid is insurance & personally I like insurance, not cos I need it, but because I want the protection it affords should I need it. Same with lids.
No-one can claim modern lids aren't many times better in objective safety tests than the mud/feather/bark/leather/cork efforts of Karl Benz's era.
We all know crashing is the best way to a long & happy life
As I said, I celebrate diversity. We can all wear pretty much what we want, within the law.
I just think its folly, disparaging people who pay more for something that offers enhanced performance which hopefully remains 100% redundant.

I know, I was only playing devil's advocate and if people want to spend a fortune it's of no interest to me so I wouldn't discourage them.
Although TZ750s aren't exactly slow
I'm obviously having a serious day. Although TZ750s aren't exactly slow
Just let me know where I can see TZ750's racing though. I need to continue my sons education in "the classics".

But this is Pistonheads Biker Banter where actively telling people how little regard you give to safety makes you cooler. Scientific fact.A lid is insurance & personally I like insurance, not cos I need it, but because I want the protection it affords should I need it. Same with lids.

"We don't want ABS or traction control! Especially in the snow. My suit made of cling-film and toilet tissue will be fine and I've made a helmet out of leaves."

You've just reminded me of watching the drunken Aussies in in Whistler Blackcomb, January, very cold, 9am & p!ssed out of their heads, 'cos it was Ozzy day, snowboarding in helmet, gloves, boots & yes, nekked, but wrapped up in clingfilm! Pure mentals.

Step away from the keyboard and go and speak to bikers who don’t rely on a forum to tell them what to wear and I’ll bet you’ll get an answer far more aligned to what you reckon is people trying to be ‘cool’!"We don't want ABS or traction control! Pure mentals.
And how much did you have to pay them for that performance? Pure mentals.
