Hi, I bought a KTM Duke 200 a few weeks ago after passing my bike test, its my first bike. The coolant cap on the bike in on the top between the tank and the instrument panel. The problem I am having is there appears to be little droplets of the coolant leaking out of the cap when I ride the bike. Its only a tiny amount but obviously I assume this should not happen.

Is this something I need to be concerned about or is it something that will 'fix it's self' as the bike is broken in. (I've only done about 270 miles on it so far)

Thanks smile

If it is still doing it come the first service (In another 350 miles) I think I will let them know then. This is the only decent picture I have of the bike - the weather means I have not gone out as much as I would have liked:

I don't have any reason to carry passengers and my insurance won't cover it any way so that metal plate over the pillion seat is for a top box (which makes the bike look butt ugly but is SO useful if I am poping into town to get some stuff or going to work). To ride its great fun, obviously better then the ybr 125 I was learning on biggrin I believe its top speed is 85mph, the most I have gone is 74mph (even though I should not go over 65 during the break in, but I was over taking a car which was doing 40 in a 60 and they decided to put their foot down so to avoid a head on collision I had to go that speed to get past on time, just avoided a collision - I did poop a little). The only problems I have had with it is the one stated in this topic and it keep jumping out of gear (causing me to again poop a little on duel carriageways) but I think that is both due to everything being a bit stiff as its new and my lack of experience.

As for the looks of it, the only better looking low powered bike in my opinion is the Ninja 300. After riding it for a few months I may invest in a new exhaust (The current one is under the bike and is really tinny, lets everyone know its only a 200cc :L ) and I may put a new decal set on it (The KTM racing one) as I am not a massive fan of the default Duke set, the orange needs breaking up just a little more. Other than that its amazing in my opinion can't think of anything else I might change other than maybe the headlight for a less alien's head shaped one.

Anyway I think I have written a bit of an essay so I will stop typing now.

It might just be the coolant cap not sealing properly, note it needs to be tightened after the click past the lock stops which prevent it from undoing. I have seen people turn up to the click and not tighten any further. Obviously don't be a gorilla, just tighten enough to fit snug.

If the Duke is anything like the rest of the KTM range the coolant cap needs to be treated as a consumable and renewed every few years anyway.

However with the bike being so new there is no need to worry about getting your hands dirty because that is what dealers and warranties are for.

Does it have a outlet just under the cap on the filler neck? If so it's a breather, of a little drop comes out of there I wouldn't worry about it as long as the levels are still good. Or is it definitely from the actual cap itself?

I think it's from the cap because when I took it off its had coolant all around the inside if it and around the screw part.

I took a look at it, mine does not click, it just screws on like a lid, I think its leaking because the lid is not sealing properly, it isn't pouring out its little drops coming out (But then obviously on a moving bike they then get sprayed everywhere from the wind)

Friend of mine had the 125, before his test from new.
He had the same problem, well nearly the same, constant coolant leaks from various places, spent more time in the dealers trying to get it fixed!!! They once kept it over the weekend to try and locate the leak. He did have a problem with the cap - I saw him and another workmate putting it back on as I came on shift. The silicone had been out though!

Maybe not much help to you... other than it's not uncommon. As has been said before, get it back to the dealer - and keep an extra careful eye on the level.

Holy thread revival Batman.

It went away after a while, I don't even have the bike anymore though, got fed up of it constantly breaking so got rid as soon as the warrenty ended.
