^ Isn't the new 1200 quite a bit un-stressed? Wouldn't that be a good enough base to get a bit more ooomph? A la KTM who are using their 1190 in the RC8R, Adventure and soon Superduke in various states of tune.

I doesn't look like Triumph are interested in a litre superbike. With all the attention they are getting from the press I'm sure we'd have heard of it one way or another by now.

I'm sure the 1215 triple is very under-stressed considering it only puts out some 136 bhp compared to the 1050 at 125 ish.
Whether that's any sort of basis for "sleeving down" to 999cc or whatever I wouldn't know. I just think that with the success of the 675 motors in the Daytona & chassis characteristics etc it would seem inevitable that the factory might consider venturing (back) into the superbike market. They have now got a real sports pedigree with more of their bikes rather than just the retro/tourer reputation.

Thing is, the 1215cc engine is probably designed to give a completely flat torque curve and be extremely predictable and docile, and not revvy. I'm not sure you can turn an engine like that into a revvy sportsbike engine like the 675 lump?

I doubt Triumph will ever build a litre class super bike, the investment needed to compete with the Japanese, Italians or zee Germans is far in excess of any money they'd recoup in sales.

Back when the T595 was released they only had the four Japanese factories and Ducati as competition, now they not only have them, they also have Aprilia, MV Augusta, BMW and KTM who are all building bikes far better than anything from the 90's

Back on thread, that exhaust is fugly!

I reckon they've done it on purpose. Most people change them to the low boy anyway so why would they spend more cash on paying for more meal to make a dual high exhaust.

wink

More money in the coffers.

Roll on March/April. Subject to the small matter of passing my test, i will be heading straight to the local triumph dealership to pick one of these beauties up.

I love this bike but its face! I'm not sure retro round lights is the way to go, but the headlights are the worst part of the bike for me by a mile.... What to do?

I think the head lights are like marmite you ether love them or hate them. I love them btw and prefer them to round ones. But hay it would be a dull old place if we all liked the same. smile

me and Neely p are going to the open night on Thursday. maybe it will look better in the flesh but I can't see me trading my daytona in for a new one or a new street triple.

I wasn't too keen on the looks of the first street but after my dad (neelyp) slapped on a seat cowl, took rear pegs off, got a tail tidy and arrows cans it's actually fking wicked. put a set of bar end mirrors and led indicators on it and I actually would be happy buying it off him for a third bike.

was at the launch for the triple last night, the standard model is nice but if I owned a currrent triple I wouldnt trade mines in for it.

the R on the other hand is fking stunning. I want it and I hate naked bikes, looks so much better in the flesh.

It looks like the only Arrow exhaust is a slip-on now? 'Tis a shame they're not doing a full system sans-cat. Or are they? *toddles off to look*

ETA: Yep. Half the fun of my Speed Triple was the lack of cats and the flames being chucked out the back.

Ride them back to back and you'd be unlikely to still want the Speed Triple. It feels too heavy and does rev like the Street Triple. I always wanted a Speed Triple until I spent time on both.
+1

Rode both, bought the Street.

Worth mentioning I'm not fat, and I don't carry pillions. Those are the only reasons I can think of that you'd want the Speed instead.

If you're 6'3" like I am with long legs, you get really uncomfortable on the Street Triple doing long motorway jaunts as your legs get pushed apart by the wind. And you look stupid on such a small bike! I preferred the Speed, but the Street's an awesome bike if you fit it (which, admittedly, 90% of people will!)

Had the first Striple R, it was a real good looker. Engine was stunning too, but just couldnt get away with how stiff and jittery the front end was when trying to corner on anything other than ultra smooth roads. Sold it and bought a KTM and forgot about potholes, and any stty surfaces.

I knew it was worth specing up a white one for the launch. Shame the bellypan never arrived in time.

You should've came over for a chat Alex, although admittedly I was pretty hectic all night!

What did you think of the new Daytona?

yup it needed a belly pan we did wonder why it never had one.

I seen you were hectic I think I spoke to your briefly at about 6.

I think the daytona is bogging to be honest. bogging compared to the old one. not a bad looking bike however.

the new subframe, exhaust, mirrors, rear swing arm and heat shield bit at the bottom of the fairing let it down drastically.

oh and yous could have polished it, looked like someone had been touching it after eating jam pieces when he lifted the cover ;p

still was quite impressed with how busy it was and actually enjoyed myself considering what it was, a few guys looking at bikes in the winter.

if I was to get rid of ny daytona it would definatley be for the street r now though.

Cheers, the bike was cleaned before it went under the cover.... think it's time to get a new one! lol.

We had a decent turnout considering the time of year etc. Though people always like a bit of free food! tongue out

The new Street has gone down fantastically well. Especially with accessories on them they look awesome. Sound the business with the Arrow exhaust as well smokin

Euan,

I was the guy on the CBR that you were chatting to about the Street R in the showroom.

Still very very tempted by it, but i'm torn between that and a Speed.

It was a good night, as you said, i was also surprised at the turnout smile

Decent night smile

Think i'll have to pop in and take a longer look at them both.
